Does the stiff suspension of the Aprilia SR 160 work against daily commuting?
As one of the sportiest scooter around, the Aprilia SR 160 is known for its handling and performance, but riders complain of its stiff suspension. This is a major concern for those considering this scooter for daily use in Indian cities less blessed with perfect roads. In longer rides, or riding on bumpy streets, the comfort is affected by the suspension setup. Stiff suspension makes the scooter more sporty, according to some, while others think it’s too harsh for daily use. This begs the question of whether the SR 160 is for everyone or whether riders should pick it based on their need for performance more than comfort. It also debates if aftermarket adjustments or aftermarket mods can make the ride better without trading off handling.
I’ve been riding the SR 160 for a year now and it’s not as bad as people say the stiff suspension is. It's not the plushest ride, but you get great feedback and control out of it. All you have to do is change the way you ride a bit.
No way, man. I test rode it and after 30 minutes my back was killing me. For short trips, it’s fine, but for daily commuting? Forget it. But there are way more comfortable options out there.
That depends on what matters to you. The SR 160 is awesome if you want a sporty ride and don’t mind giving a few comfort. If you’re looking for a cushy commuter, you’re probably better off looking elsewhere.
Actually I prefer the stiffer suspension. This makes the scooter more stable at high speeds and in corners. And also, you're not riding on a wooden plank or something. It is still manageable for daily use.
The suspension is definitely on the firmer side, but it’s not a deal breaker. I’ve found that changing tire pressure can make a huge difference in ride comfort without losing the sporty feel.
As a scooter owner who has ridden both the SR 160 and a more comfort oriented scooter, I can say that Aprilia’s suspension is not for everyone. That said, it’s actually pretty great if you don’t mind feeling the road a little more and enjoy a more engaging ride.
I think people make it seem stiffer than what it is. Yes, it’s not as plush as some other scooters, but it’s not like riding a jackhammer. It’s a trade off in handling, but I think it’s worth it.
