Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views5 answers
Size makes a difference in the behavior and social dynamics of students, even in a school bus sort of size. More compact than traditional school buses, the Mahindra Supro School Bus has drawn attention to how it affects student interactions while on transit. Others say a smaller space could perhaps mean more physical proximity, and that could increase bullying problems. Some say the cozier environment could lead to better relationships among students. The concern is that in this compact space, a single driver will not be able to effectively monitor student behavior. After the switch to the Supro, some schools have seen changes in group dynamics, both good and bad. The sheer size of the bus also raises the question, how much personal space and do they feel comfortable riding? For older and larger students, they may be especially concerned. Because bullying is such a serious problem in schools, the effect of transportation choices on student well being is a subject of constant discussion among educators, parents, and students themselves.

I'm a bit torn on this. It’s good for catching bad behavior because the driver can hear everything, and the compact size is a plus. That also means that if a kid is having a bad day and wants to be left alone, then there's no privacy. It's a double-edged sword.

Former bus driver here. I have never seen the difference in bus size make a difference in bullying. It has nothing to do with setting clear rules and building a respectful environment. Bullying is not caused by or prevented by the size of the Supro.

My kid says it's like riding in a big car with all his friends in it. He loves it. The actual size, I think, makes it feel more like a group outing and less like a dreary school bus ride. Perhaps that positive vibe cuts down on bullying?

Are you serious? This is a nightmare, and I ride one of these to school. Your crammed up in there with everyone and there's no where to go if someone starts picking on you. In a bigger bus at least you could move to another seat.

The Supro has actually caused me to see fewer bullying incidents since we switched to it. Because the space is smaller, kids can't easily hide bad behavior from the driver. It is easier to watch everyone.
