Does the premium of the Volvo V90 Cross Country (Diesel) make it worth it over the regular V90?

The luxury wagon segment is a small but competitive market. German rivals such as the Audi A6 Allroad, Mercedes-Benz E Class All-Terrain and to some extent the BMW 5 Series Touring often compete against the Volvo V90 Cross Country (Diesel). Each of these vehicles have their own strengths to offer. German offerings are famous for their performance and cutting edge technology while Volvo is famous for its distinctly and luxurious Scandinavian design, comfort, and safety features. In the case of the V90 Cross Country, it’s worth considering that the diesel engine might provide better fuel economy compared to a few petrol models. Each one is debated by enthusiasts over the years, comparing factors like how it drives, interior quality, brand prestige, and long term reliability.

Absolutely worth it! The extra ground clearance has saved my bumper time and time again on rough country roads.

No, it is overkill for most people. The plastic cladding certainly makes the regular V90 look a bit more aggressive, but the regular V90 is plenty capable and looks sleeker.

Depends on where you live. The Cross Country is a no brainer if you are used to dealing with snow or unpaved roads.

I'd say no. The price difference would buy you a set of winter tires and some nice upgrades on the regular V90.

100% yes. The all wheel drive system of the Cross Country is much better than anything you might add aftermarket to a regular V90.

Just for the peace of mind alone it is worth it. You never know when you could be in need of an extra capability.

I have owned both and honestly I prefer the regular V90. This SUV–like feeling of the Cross Country isn’t to my taste.

German wagons are more premium inside. Volvo’s infotainment system is a little bit clunky compared to BMW’s iDrive or Mercedes’ MBUX.

I would choose the Volvo any day. It has character, the seats are unbeatable for long trips.

Audi A6 Allroad is in a different league when it comes to tech and performance. Volvo's playing catch-up.

Volvo wins on safety features. The German brands are not committed to safety innovation as their counterparts.

I drove all of them, and the Volvo was the most spacious and practical. The Germans seem more focused on sportiness.

The Germans will age worse than the V90 CC. The others can date quickly, but this is timeless.
