Does the Nexon CNG mean compromising with boot space?

by Charuover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The installation of the gas cylinder resulting in loss of boot space is one of the biggest concerns with CNG vehicles. As a compact SUV, the Nexon has already less cargo area than larger SUVs. With a CNG tank installed now, that space is going to shrink even more. The practicality of this is also questionable: what if you're a family or someone who more often than not has to carry around luggage? Can weekend bags still fit in the Nexon CNG? How do you buy daily essentials such as groceries or sports equipment? Even is how does that affect the weight distribution and handling of the car. Others say that the fuel cost savings make up for the loss of boot space (which they argue defeats the point of getting an SUV in the first place). This is the classic case of pros and cons, and different buyers will care about different things.

It all depends if there really is any space left for me. I could live with it, so long as it can still fit in a standard suitcase or a week's worth of groceries. If it's just glorified glovebox, that's a hard pass.

I’d rather worry more about how that affects the car’s weight distribution and handling. SUVs have to feel stable when cornering. But if the CNG tank interferes that, that could be a bigger than just lost cargo space.

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but definitely a compromise. If you're buying a CNG car, you're already foregoing other factors for fuel economy. It's just part of the package: a bit less boot space.

How many of us fill up our boots completely everyday? Let’s be honest here. In fact, most people won’t notice the difference for day to day use, as the reduced space won’t matter much.

It depends on your lifestyle, I feel. For a small family running mostly in the city this may be ok. For those of us who must lug stuff around or are taking a lengthy drive, it could be a real hassle.

This isn’t great, but it’s a fair split of the coin for the fuel savings. In reality, most people don’t even use their entire boot capacity on a regular basis. However, you will always have the option of using a roof carrier for the occasional big shopping trip or vacation.

Absolutely a deal-breaker. If you can't throw a couple of suitcases 'without having to squash them, what's the point of an SUV? So what, time to buy a hatchback.
