Does the Kia Venga make up for its lack of SUV styling with its high seating position?

With a higher seating position than many hatchbacks, the Kia Venga is easier to get in and out of, while giving better visibility. It's the same commanding view SUVs and crossovers have been offering for years. But the Venga does not have the rugged styling or perceived toughness of SUVs so popular with buyers. It makes you wonder if the advantages of sitting higher up are enough to take on the aesthetic and image driven benefits of SUVs. Is the Venga a best of both worlds offering in that it combines the compact size with SUV like seating or does it fail as the compact doesn’t really feel like an SUV and the SUV doesn’t really feel like a compact? How important is it that it looks like an SUV, as opposed to other benefits like visibility, ease of access?

Absolutely! The seating is high so you can see and be comfortable. That’s preferable to fake rugged styling. Why pretend most SUVs never see dirt in the first place?

No way. The Venga still looks like a dorky minivan, but the high seating is nice. Crossovers at least try to look cool, even if they’re just as practical.

It's a trade-off. The benefits of high seating without the bulk and poor fuel economy of an SUV. I think it’s a smart compromise for city driving.

In fact, I like the Venga's honest design. It's not saying it's trying to be something it's not. Unlike those plastic body claddings on crossovers, the high seating is genuinely useful.

The Venga’s easy access is much more important than looking tough for older drivers or those with mobility issues. That's a car that puts function first and it is refreshing.

I do not know, it depends on priorities. If you want SUV image and status, Venga won't do. It’s spot on if you just want the practical benefits.

I don’t mind the lack of SUV styling. It's more aerodynamic and more efficient. You get the perks of the visibility without the fuel economy penalty of the SUV.
