Does the Jeeto Plus really have as low a maintenance cost as Mahindra claims?

The Jeeto Plus is marketed by Mahindra as a low maintenance vehicle, which is quite an enticing proposition for a small business owner who wants to cut down on cost and a fleet operator. Some variants claim a maintenance cost as low as 22 paise per km. That covers things like service intervals, spare parts costs and reliability in general. Real world experiences however, can be quite different. Some users have had few problems and low running costs, some complain of frequent breakdowns and high repair costs. However, availability and price of spare parts are debatable with respect to other established big brands in the mini truck segment. The long term durability of the vehicle is another point of talk, some worrying if the low initial maintenance cost is sustainable over the life of the vehicle. In this article, we will examine different points of view on whether the Jeeto Plus actually lives up to its claim of having low maintenance costs in real life.

Hence, when it comes to maintaining the Jeeto Plus, I have not really faced any costs similar to that. I've had mine for 18 months or so and apart from the usual services I've had no major problems. Service intervals are longer than my old mini truck and this helps with the cost. It's not as low as Mahindra claims, but it's certainly on the low side for vehicles in this segment.

The maintenance costs have been hit or miss. Routine services are cheap, but I have had one or two repairs that put me out a great deal of money. In smaller towns however, this can lead to longer downtimes due to the availability of spare parts. It’s easy to forget about until something goes wrong and then it can get expensive.

I can say as a fleet operator that the Jeeto Plus has been surprisingly economical to maintain. The trick is to follow the service schedule religiously. I’ve seen that vehicles that skip services tend to have more problems. Proper maintenance, and it really does live up to the low maintenance cost claim.

I believe it’s more of a marketing hype to call it low maintenance. It's not outrageously expensive to maintain, but it's not any cheaper than other mini trucks I've owned. Rather, the real advantage is in fuel efficiency, not maintenance costs. Of course, it’s still a cheap car to keep on the road.

I haven't been surprised at all by the maintenance cost. The Jeeto Plus feels much more modern and reliable, than what I am used to coming from an older Tata Ace. After the first year of ownership, I haven’t had any major issues. A big plus with the longer service intervals is reduced downtime. I can’t vouch for the exact 22 paise per km claim, but at the very least, I’m feeling like I’m spending less on maintenance in total.
