Does the Fortuner Legender off road as well as dedicated off road SUVs?

The off road credentials of the Toyota Fortuner have always been well known thanks to its body on frame construction and four wheel drive system. The Legender variant offers these core capabilities with a more premium and stylish variant. But it's not clear how it measures up against purpose built off road SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler or Land Rover Defender. Others think that the Legender’s more road oriented tires and luxury features may come at the expense of its off road abilities, while some still think it is a great compromise between on road comfort and off road capability. This is a question of whether the Fortuner Legender can actually cut it in serious off road situations or is it better suited to light trail duty and occasional rough road use.

It’s capable, but not in the same league as dedicated off roaders. The Legender is a more mall crawler sort of thing with some off road ability.

Don't underestimate it. The Legender still has the Fortuner's off road DNA. Most off road situations the average owner will ever encounter it can handle.

It's a jack of all trades. It’s not as hardcore off road as a Wrangler but a lot more comfortable on road. It's the perfect balance for most people.

The tires let it down, as the hardware is there. But swap the stock tires for some proper all terrains and it'll surprise you with what it can do.

But it's plenty capable for 90% of users. In other words, the Legender will be fine unless you’re rock crawling or doing extreme off roading.

We’re honest about it – most Legender owners aren’t going off road anyway. It just needs to be capable enough for the occasional adventure.

Most people don't give it enough credit, but it's more capable than you'd think. It's not a Wrangler, but it will take you places that most other 'luxury' SUVs wouldn't dream of.
