Does the F250 2 channel ABS make a difference over single channel systems?
The Pulsar F250 gets a dual channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) which is a notch above the single channel ones that many bikes in this segment get. Single channel ABS prevents the front wheel from locking up during hard braking, but dual channel systems work on the front and rear wheels. Theoretically, it offers better stability and shorter stopping distance, particularly in emergency conditions or on slippery grounds. But some riders say the difference isn't really noticeable in real world riding, particularly for experienced motorcyclists who are already adept at modulating brake pressure. There's also discussion on whether dual channel ABS is overkill on a 250cc bike perhaps increasing the cost and complexity of the bike unnecessarily. The system can also be effective, depending on tire quality, and road conditions.
Absolutely! In sudden braking situations the 2 channel ABS on my F250 have saved my bacon a couple of times. You can really see the difference in wet conditions where the single channel would normally just slide out the back.
I don’t honestly see much difference from my old bike with single channel ABS. Perhaps it’s because I’m a bit used to proper braking technique, but I haven’t had any situations where the rear ABS has kicked in.
One of those features you hope you’ll never need, but you’re glad it’s there. For the added safety (especially if you are a new rider and might panic brake in an emergency), I think it's worth it.
The dual channel system is definitely more confidence inspiring. I don’t have to worry about locking up either wheel, so I can brake harder. On long rides fatigue may affect your braking finesse and it’s particularly nice.
I turned off the rear ABS on my F250. In corners I prefer to have some rear wheel slide for extra control. Although the front ABS is nice to have.
If you are not coming from an ABS bike, then the difference is night and day. It's amazing being able to brake hard without fear of lowsiding. I believe dual channel should be standard on all bikes.
I think it is overkill for a 250cc bike. That extra cost could have gone to a slipper clutch or better suspension. The class of motorcycle is more than enough for single channel ABS.
