Does the BYD Seal hold up to the build quality of established luxury brands?
Some owners and editors have praised the build quality of the BYD Seal, insisting it's as good as it is with any established luxury brands. All this has kicked off conversation about whether the build quality of Chinese automakers like BYD is truly up to par with their traditional luxury marques counterparts. The debate often revolves around panel gaps, interior materials, sound insulation and overall fit and finish. While some believe the Seal's quality compares favorably to or is even better than similarly priced European luxury cars, others doubt long term durability and consistency between production runs. The question explores how Chinese automotive manufacturing quality is perceived and whether brands like BYD are changing long standing stereotypes.
The Seal felt solid, and I was shocked. I remember the old E-Class Mercedes and the thud of the door.
It's good build quality, but we're not getting carried away. It's still not quite up to Audi and BMW level.
My Seal has tighter panel gaps than my colleague's Model 3. Clearly BYD is bringing their A game.
It may start out with good quality, but I doubt it will last in the long term. Let's see how these will hold up 5 years from now.
The Seal’s interior materials are seriously premium. At 60% the price, 90% of the way to a 5-Series BMW.
The quality is being overhyped by people. For the price it's good, but if you look closely there's still some cheap plastics.
As a former owner of both “premium” and mainstream brands, I believe that the Seal is punching well above its weight class in terms of quality.
