Does the BYD Dolphin have the performance to excite enthusiastic drivers?
Ashutosh 02 January 2025 06:25
Electric vehicles often have very different performance characteristics than traditional combustion engine cars, and this leads to debates about what 'good' performance means in an EV. While not referred to as a sports car, the BYD Dolphin has caused people to talk about its acceleration, handling and overall driving characteristics. For some of the drivers, EVs offer the instant torque of the powertrain that makes for a thrilling driving experience; others will miss having to use a clutch or the sound of an engine revving. Inevitably, the Dolphin's performance is pitted against the performance of EVs and gas powered cars in the same price range. This debate ultimately challenges whether or not traditional performance metrics ring out true in a world that has moved to electric and whether driving enjoyment has changed with our new world.

The Dolphin is more than adequate for an affordable EV. It feels zippy around town because of the instant torque.
