Does the Bajaj BYK 100 meet the fuel efficiency promises in the real world?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
In the commuter motorcycle segment in India, fuel efficiency is often the most important factor for buyers. Bajaj has been bold in claims about the mileage of the BYK 100 and has positioned it as one of the most fuel efficient bikes in its class. But as many riders have come to know, there can be a major difference between what figures are claimed and what the real world does. Fuel efficiency of a bike is a function of traffic conditions, riding style, maintenance, even climate. Early adopters have reported some impressive mileage figures, while others say the bike doesn’t match the advertised numbers. This has sparked debates about how accurate Bajaj’s claims are and whether you really do get better fuel efficiency from the BYK 100 than its competition on a daily basis. The methods of measuring fuel efficiency are also discussed along with if the standardized testing procedures are reflective of the riding conditions in India. The BYK 100's actual mileage performance could be a make or break factor for many potential buyers as fuel costs continue to rise.

Most people who buy this bike won’t be obsessed with tracking mileage. Most riders will be happy so long as it is in the ballpark of the claimed figures.

The BYK 100 is one of the most efficient bikes I’ve ridden, even if it doesn’t quite hit the exact claimed numbers. It is noticeably better than my old Splendor.

I believe the BYK 100 is for real. Bajaj has always been good at fuel efficient engines. Do you remember how the Discover shook up the market?

The issue is that everyone's 'real world' is different. Highway cruisers will see much lower figures than city riders. Bajaj should be more transparent about the conditions under which they test.

All fuel efficiency claims are exaggerated. In real world use, what matters is how it compares to other bikes. According to what I've heard the BYK 100 is still quite competitive.

I’ve been riding the BYK 100 for a month now and I’m actually getting pretty close to the claimed figures. It’s all about how you ride the bike and how you keep it.

I have never had a bike that did live up to its claimed mileage. I bet the BYK 100 is not an exception. In real world conditions expect at least 10-15% less.
