Does the Aprilia STX 150 make a good long distance tourer?
The Aprilia STX 150 is frequently considered a commuter or city bike, but some intrepid riders have taken the bike on longer rides. This has caused a debate about whether the bike can be used for touring. Small displacement bikes are good for long trips, but things like comfort over extended periods, fuel range, luggage capacity and highway performance become factors. While some riders claim that the STX 150 is an efficient and reliable machine to ride on the open road, others maintain it’s not built for anything outside of urban environments. So let’s talk about the people who have taken their STX 150 beyond the city limits.
My STX did a 500km trip and it was surprisingly comfortable. It's not a bad seat for long hauls.
It's doable, but not ideal. After a few hours on the highway, the lack of wind protection gets tiring.
I love touring on my STX! It's efficient, it’s reliable and it’s light enough that you can easily carry even when it’s fully loaded.
Long trips are a pain in the small tank. You’ll be filling up a lot more often than your riding buddies.
Great for weekend getaways, but not for crossing the country. Stick to shorter tours.
With a few modifications such as a taller windscreen and soft luggage, it makes a decent light tourer.
I've done several 1000km+ trips on mine. The journey is all about managing expectations and enjoying it.
Highway speeds can be pretty intense vibrations. Not the most comfortable for long distance riding.
Great backroads and small towns exploring. Don't expect to run with the big boys on the interstate though.
