Did Bajaj miss an opportunity by discontinuing the Discover 135 Sports?

During the production run, the Discover 135 Sports had its own following, but Bajaj decided to replace the bike upon arriving of other models. The decision has incited motorcycle aficionados into debating whether the company made a mistake. Others claim that the bike's distinctive combination of performance and efficiency could have been developed to fight in today's market. Some think it was inevitable that it was discontinued because changing consumer preferences and stricter emissions standards made it so. The conversation usually revolves around if a modernized version could have found a place in Bajaj's line up or if the resources would have been better spent to develop new platforms. Some fans of the model imagine how it could have been updated with modern features, while still appealing to its core fans, while others wonder if there is even a place for such a specialized offering these days.

Absolutely. This was a car that had a perfect balance of power and efficiency – hard to find in today’s world. It could have been a killer option for budget conscious enthusiasts with some modern updates.

Bajaj made the right call nah. Instead, the market has moved on to either proper 150cc+ performance bikes or fuel sipping commuters. The 135 was in a weird middle ground.

They definitely dropped the ball. It had so much potential for evolution for the 135 platform. If you had a fuel injected version with ABS and better suspension, it could have been a segment buster.

In hindsight, it’s easy to say, but I think Bajaj knows their market. The Pulsar line probably ate up quite a few of the 135's sales, anyway.

Mixed feelings on this one. Emissions regulations were getting tougher, the 135 was great. Perhaps they could have preserved the spirit in a more contemporary form, however.

Huge missed opportunity. For good reason, people loved the 135. With a little clever marketing and updates, it could have been positioned as the thinking rider’s sport bike alternative to flashy, impractical sport bikes.

I don't think so. The 135 was a product of its time, and cool, but not in the way we think about cool today. Maybe trying to keep it alive just made it watered down and overpriced shadow of the original.
