Dashcam cable routing around curtain airbags in Indian cars: A-pillar, headliner or floor route — what is safest?
Dashcam wiring can become a safety issue when a cable passes near a curtain-airbag deployment area. The correct route is model-specific because airbag locations, trim and documented accessory paths vary.
Honda Cars India places side curtain airbags in the ceiling above the side windows. Kia India's Carnival manual places them along the roof rails above the doors and warns against objects around pillar and roof-side-rail deployment areas. These manuals explain the concern, but they do not establish one universal route.
| Route | What to verify |
|---|---|
| A-pillar / headliner | Clearance from the exact model's documented deployment zone |
| Floor / door sill | Compatibility with wiring, trim, seats and restraints |
| Installer-selected route | Model knowledge, documentation and later serviceability |
CarsIndia and Team-BHP discussions show recurring disagreement about the two routes, trim removal and installer competence. Those comments are demand signals, not technical instructions. A neat-looking route is not automatically safe or manufacturer-compatible.
Check the exact owner's manual and use an authorised or competent specialist when the deployment path is unclear. A dashcam job should not involve opening, modifying or repairing airbag components.
Which route keeps the cable clear of the documented deployment path? What installer evidence, warranty record and future service access would make it acceptable?
