Could the Altius Scimitar 670 Diesel be the ultimate bike for a pan India road trip?

Question

Think of leaving for an epic trip across India: from snow covered Himalayas to sun kissed Kanyakumari. You’d need a bike that’s up to the job: a bike that can cope with diverse terrains, unpredictable weather and varying fuel quality. Rugged build and multi fuel capability make the Altius Scimitar 670 Diesel look like a strong contender for such an adventure. Is it really the best choice for a cross country Indian odyssey though? Think about how comfortable it is for long rides, how fuel efficient it is when you have a long distance to cover, ease of maintenance in remote places etc and also storage capacity, when you're camping somewhere. What would it be like compared to other popular touring bikes such as Royal Enfield Himalayan or KTM 390 Adventure? Could any shortcomings of its unique features be offset by them? But perhaps most importantly, could it take the extremes that India’s geography and climate have to offer and give an unforgettable riding experience?

Why not? It's got range, it's got durability and it's got the cool factor. It’s not as comfy as a big touring bike, but it’ll go where others can’t. It’s perfect for covering every corner of India.

@manish-sah · Answer

Most of India doesn't need that. A standard 400-500cc bike would do unless you're planning to go seriously off road, but it would be a hell of a lot more comfortable.

@divya-sinh · Answer

I would take it just because it is unique. Touring India on a diesel bike? Imagine the stories you’d have. It’s not the most practical, but it would be one hell of an adventure.

@sachin-sha · Answer

You forget about maintenance. If you break down in the middle of nowhere and have a diesel engine, good luck finding a mechanic who can work on it. Keep it more common.

@kalika-dub · Answer

It could work, you'd just need to mod it first. Add a larger fuel tank, add some nice seats, and add proper luggage mounts. You'd then have the ultimate pan India tourer.

@priyanka-r · Answer

It's way too heavy and uncomfortable for long distance touring, no way. You’d be better off with something like a Royal Enfield Himalayan which is built for long rides.

@abhay-sing · Answer

Absolutely! This makes it perfect for long trips through rural India where fuel quality can be iffy, just for the multi fuel capability. Plus, it’s military grade tough so it can take on anything the roads can throw at it.
