Motorcycle enthusiasts often take to long distance touring and bike choice can make a big difference in the experience. A middleweight engine in the classic styling of Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 is an interesting option for tourers. Riders weigh in on its suitability for extended trips, weighing comfort over long hours, fuel efficiency, luggage capacity and highway performance. It’s argued that with its relaxed riding position and torquey engine it is the perfect cruiser, whereas others say the current touring bikes offer more features for long distance riding. It also covers the bike's road handling capability, its reliability on long trips, and touring specific accessories and modifications that are available for this bike.

I had a blast on my Cruiser 650 and took it on a 3000 km trip. The engine is happy cruising at highway speeds and it's comfortable enough for long days. All you need to do is some soft bags and you’re ready to go.

Okay for touring, not great. After a few hours the seat becomes uncomfortable and the lack of wind protection is painful on highways. If you're touring, there are better options.

As a touring bike for the price it's hard to beat. It’s not as plush as a Gold Wing, but it has character. It’s also easy to keep up on the road if something goes wrong.

I do love touring on my Cruiser 650, but it does have its limitations. The little fuel tank means lots of stops and it's a bit of a struggle with two up riding and full luggage. But solo? It's perfect.

A laid back touring bike, it is. The Cruiser 650 is a great choice if you don’t mind the journey and you are not in a hurry. It won’t keep up with dedicated touring bikes on long highway stretches, but it’s a fun way to get around.
