Can the Ola S1 Pro’s performance withstand extreme weather conditions?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views8 comments
India has a great variety of weather from very hot summers to very heavy monsoons and in some places very cold winters. Electric vehicles like Ola S1 Pro are sensitive to extreme temperatures — they can undermine battery performance, range, and overall functioning. Some users report that they have noticed huge range drops during peak summer or winter, while others say they haven't seen any. In this article, we’ll see how the S1 Pro fares in different weather conditions across India, its reliability, range variations, and any additional features or precautions that owners have found helpful in handling weather related issues.

However, the scooter has a little difficulty in hilly areas in winter. Cold weather and inclines really put a strain on the battery. In these conditions I have learned to be conservative with my range estimates.

As I lived on the coast, I was afraid of the salty air corroding things. No issues so far, but I’m extra careful in cleaning and maintenance at monsoons.

In fact, I find the S1 Pro to perform better in slightly cooler weather. It appears that the battery likes around 20-25°C. Above 35°C and you begin to feel the effects.

It’s tough on the S1 Pro, as the extreme heat in Rajasthan summers can be brutal. The range drops not only that but I’ve noticed the motor heats up faster. Eco mode helps, kind of.

I live in Bangalore and the climate here is moderate so I don’t see as much variation across the year. Perhaps we are in the sweet spot for EVs.

North Indian winters are hard on the battery. On really cold days I’ve seen range drop by almost 30%. The good news is, it comes back when things warm up.

The S1 Pro is tricky in monsoon season. Though the scooter works well in wet roads, I have had water enter in some electrical components. Ola needs to improve weatherproofing.

The summer heat does affect the range, as I live in Delhi. When it gets to 45°C+, I've seen about a 15-20% drop. If you plan your trips it's manageable.
