Can the CB500X get around for daily ride purposes and highway use?

The Honda CB500X has 471cc of displacement, so it's between the smaller beginner bikes and more powerful bikes, too. There have been ongoing debates as to whether the bike has the power to ride confidently on highways with enough oomph for everyday riding. Riders praise the CB500X's ability to cruise comfortably on the highway and provide enough oomph to be overtaken safely. Some swear the engine feels underpowered when fully loaded or even two-up. The discussion usually gets into the bike’s sweet spot for cruising speed, how it handles mountain roads or strong headwinds, and how it compares to both smaller and larger displacement motorcycles in the real world. This question fits into a bigger debate of how much power is 'enough' for a do-it-all, versatile motorcycle.

It’s not about the power; it’s about what you do with it. It's more fun to use 100% of this bike’s potential than 50% of a more powerful bike.

I wish I had more power to battle through strong headwinds on the highway where I ride, and I ride in a pretty windy area.

This bike shines in the midrange torque. It may not have the top of a bigger bike, but there’s plenty of usable power where it counts.

For newer riders, or those who have downsized from larger bikes, it’s perfect. It’s a bit tame for experienced riders.

I've done my own on 3000-mile road trips. With more than enough power for highway cruising and mountain passes, it's got it.

I think it’s the sweet spot. Enough power to be fun and confident without being too much power, intimidating, or overkill for daily riding.

For solo riding, it's great. Add a passenger and the luggage, and you'll be wishing for more oomph on the highway.

I came from a 250cc bike, and the CB500X is like a rocket compared to that. It's all about perspective.

It works until you try to go up a hill when you have a truck to pass. Then you really feel the lack of power.

It has enough power for daily use. I commute on the highway and never feel deprived.
