Buying car tyres online vs offline in India: how should buyers compare price, tyre age, fitment and warranty?
An online tyre listing may look cheaper, while a local tyre shop can make inspection, fitting, balancing, alignment, returns and claim handling simpler. Neither channel is automatically safer or better: compare the same tyre specification and the complete fitted transaction before paying.
What should be compared?
| Check | What to confirm in writing |
|---|---|
| Vehicle fit | Exact size, load index, speed rating, model and quantity required for the vehicle. |
| Final price | Invoice total including valves, delivery, fitting, balancing and alignment; treat every figure as quote-specific. |
| Seller and stock | Brand-authorised seller status, sidewall manufacturing code and visible delivery or storage condition before fitment. |
| Returns | Whether an unfitted tyre can be returned and who pays reverse delivery. |
| Warranty | Invoice and registration requirements, covered defects, road-hazard exclusions and the local claim route. |
| Aftercare | Old-tyre disposal or buyback, rebalancing support and one accountable contact if a problem appears. |
Michelin India’s current passenger-car terms, for example, link cover to proof or registration and authorised sales conditions, while Apollo’s current terms require proof of purchase. These are brand-specific examples, not a universal rule, so verify the selected brand, seller and invoice.
What discount would justify buying online only after stock age, seller status, fitment and returns are confirmed? Or what premium is reasonable for a local shop that handles the complete transaction? Share the vehicle specification, tyre model and a redacted quote difference if useful.
