Bajaj Pulsar N250 vs Yamaha R15 V4 in India: which suits a 40 km daily commute and weekend rides?

Question

A roughly 40 km daily commute plus occasional weekend rides makes the Bajaj Pulsar N250 and Yamaha R15 V4 a real choice between different riding priorities. Bajaj lists the N250 with a 249.07 cc engine, 24.5 PS and a 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha presents the R15 V4 as a 155 cc sport-oriented motorcycle. Engine size alone cannot decide how either bike will feel in traffic or over the whole commuting week.

Daily ride: Try both bikes in city conditions and pay attention to posture, wrist and back load, low-speed control, heat and parking ease over the full 40 km routine.
Weekend use: Weigh the riding position and the sort of roads actually used, including whether a pillion or luggage comes along.
Budget: Compare current on-road quotes for the exact variants, insurance and likely service costs in the same city. Do not treat one rider's price or comfort report as universal.

Which would you choose for this split, and what would change your answer: commute traffic, fit on a test ride, pillion needs, service access or the price gap? Share the city, budget and whether the 40 km is one way or round trip.

Compare running cost with the same annual distance and realistic service quotes, not a single fuel-economy anecdote. For a 40 km commute, maintenance frequency, tyre costs and service access can change the total noticeably over several years. Ask both dealers for written schedules and local parts availability. A weekend preference can then be weighed against recurring costs with evidence from the exact variants being considered.

What is the actual on-road gap between the N250 and the chosen R15 V4 variant in the buyer's city? That figure matters more than a broad ex-showroom comparison. Add insurance, riding gear, finance cost if applicable and the first scheduled services before deciding whether one bike is better value. The R15's sport-focused layout and the N250's different engine character each have appeal, but neither should require stretching a commute budget without a clear reason.

For a 40 km daily ride, the better bike is the one that remains comfortable on the actual route, even if the other looks more exciting for weekends. Put both on the same checklist: wrist and back position in traffic, low-speed balance, turning room, pillion seat and ease of parking. The N250 and R15 V4 have different riding layouts, so engine displacement alone cannot give a comfort verdict. Ask for enough test-ride time to judge the usual city speeds, then decide how much weekend sportiness is worth trading against weekday effort.
