Can we rely on the Skoda Kodiaq to survive the long haul?

I’ve had the engine and transmission bullet proof, but I’ve had some sensor issues and other electronic components. It's been in the shop more than I'd like, but nothing that left me stranded.

I was worried about reliability — I had come from Japanese cars. After 50,000 km, though, I was pleasantly surprised. It's solid and well built. But make sure you find a good Skoda specialist for servicing.

I'm not sure people exaggerate the reliability concerns. Skodas are well engineered today. Yes, they’re not as foolproof as a Toyota, but they’re not unreliable by any means when taken care of.
How big is the Skoda Kamiq’s boot? And is it big enough for everyday family life or not as spacious at this money?

As a family of four, the Kamiq’s boot is more than adequate for us. It’s got no problem with a couple of suitcases for weekend trips and easily swallows our weekly grocery shop. There’s also the adjustable boot floor.

To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed with the boot space. It's not bad, but my old Renault Captur had a bigger boot. Now that I’m packing for longer trips, I have to be more strategic.

Although the raw numbers aren't class leading, the Kamiq's boot shape is very practical. And it's nice and square so you can actually use all the space. And the low load lip makes for easy loading and unloading of heavy items.

The Kamiq finds a good balance between boot space and rear passenger room for me. They may not have as big boots as some rivals, but they don't come with as little rear legroom. I’d rather have comfortable passengers than a few extra liters of space.

The Kamiq’s boot is a bit lacking as I regularly carry sports equipment. For everyday use it's fine, but if I have to carry my bike, I have to take the front wheel off. A little more hassle than some of the larger SUVs.

The boot space is decent, but I’m most impressed with the little touches. Super useful features including hooks for shopping bags, removable LED light and double sided boot floor mat make everyday life easier.

I think people are too hung up on boot capacity numbers. In real world use, the Kamiq's boot is big enough for most situations. If you're not a regular furniture hauler, it's plenty big for a compact SUV.
The Skoda Kamiq’s infotainment system; how user friendly and feature packed does it compare with its rivals?
06 January 2025 10:34
I used both the Kamiq and the VW T-Roc, and I have to say I prefer the Kamiq’s system. It's just more intuitive and cleaner graphics. Plus the gesture control feature is pretty neat once you get used to it.

Although I’m not very tech savvy, I found the Kamiq’s infotainment system a little overwelming at first. I do miss more physical buttons, but there’s definitely a learning curve. Driving can get distracting while using it.
The Skoda Kamiq’s infotainment system; how user friendly and feature packed does it compare with its rivals?

It’s not bad, but it’s not revolutionary. The one thing I do like about it is how easily it can connect with Android Auto. Google Maps and Spotify on the big screen makes my commute so much easier.

I was skeptical about the Kamiq’s infotainment, coming from a premium brand. I was pleasantly surprised, though. The screen is crisp, it’s responsive, and it has every feature I need. It's not as fancy as an Audi, but it works and doesn't fuss about it.

Are these touchscreen only systems a step backward or am I the only one who thinks so? There are too many times I’ve hit the wrong button on a bumpy road. I’d take physical controls any day.

Actually, the Kamiq’s voice control is pretty good. At first I was skeptical, but it picks up my commands most of the time. It's a nice safety feature if you don't want to take your hands off the wheel.

With the Kamiq, I think Skoda got the balance right with its system. It's a good balance of tech for techies and simplicity for my parents not to get frustrated. That's no small feat.
Is the Skoda Kamiq's rear legroom as good as they say it is?
06 January 2025 10:34
Having been 6'2" myself, I can say that the Kamiq's rear legroom is impressive. I can sit behind myself comfortably which is very rare in this class. It’s not quite limo level, but for a compact SUV, it’s top notch.
Is the Skoda Kamiq's rear legroom as good as they say it is?
06 January 2025 10:34
I feel the hype is a little overblown. Yes, the legroom is good, but it’s not a mind blowing. It’s just as spacious in the back as my friend’s Seat Arona. It's probably just Skoda doing a good job of marketing whatever it is they're marketing.
Is the Skoda Kamiq's rear legroom as good as they say it is?
06 January 2025 10:34
Leg room is fine, but I'm more impressed overall, for the amount of space they managed to cram in. The high roof and the flat floor in the back make it feel more open. It's more than just legroom.
