Will India miss Skoda Kylaq’s diesel engine option?

Skoda is being bold here, but I think it’s forward thinking. As emission norms are getting stricter, petrol is the way to go. They’re ahead of the curve, just.
Will India miss Skoda Kylaq’s diesel engine option?

I'm on the fence about this. Personally I’m a petrol man, but I know there are still many SUV buyers who swear by diesel. That could hurt initial sales, but in the long run could pay off as the market moves away from diesel.
Will India miss Skoda Kylaq’s diesel engine option?

Most people who are buying compact SUVs in cities don't need diesel, let's be real. It’s likely that the Kylaq’s target audience is more interested in features and brand image than fuel type.
Will India miss Skoda Kylaq’s diesel engine option?

I do think it's a missed opportunity. But even if diesel is on its way out, including it as an option would have expanded the Kylaq's market. Not everyone is ready to switch to petrol yet.

In fact, the absence of diesel might actually be a selling point for some. No worries about future diesel bans in some cities, less maintenance and a quieter engine. It’s a smart long term strategy.
What are the chances of the Skoda Kylaq matching Maruti and Hyundai in after sales service?
07 January 2025 05:29
Skoda is really upping their game with after sales I think. They have been expanding their network and also the new service packages look quite competitive. It is not Maruti level yet but it is indeed getting there.
What are the chances of the Skoda Kylaq matching Maruti and Hyundai in after sales service?

No way. Service network wise too, Maruti and Hyundai are miles ahead. Until Skoda can reach as far, especially in smaller towns, they will always be at a disadvantage.

It’s getting there, but let’s face it, it’s going to take years for them to build the kind of trust and network that Maruti and Hyundai have. Service concerns will hold back the Kylaq, though it might be great.

Actually I prefer Skoda's service now. Yes, there are fewer centers, but the service is usually better than what you get with the mass brands. It's more personalized.

It's a trade-off. Skoda gives you a better car, but you might have to put up with slightly more inconvenient service. It’s worth it for me because the driving experience is superior.

In a few years when these cars are out of warranty, the real test will be. It's then, when we'll see if Skoda can really compete on long term ownership costs.

I think people overestimate the service question. How often do you really need to go to the service center? It shouldn't be an issue if the car is well built.
Let’s compare the Kushaq’s infotainment system with that of rivals like Creta and Seltos.

The Kushaq’s infotainment is actually what I prefer. The Creta's is simpler and clutter free. It's snappier, it's easier to use while driving, but sure, it's got fewer features.

The Seltos is no way close to it, it beats it hands down. In comparison, the Kushaq’s system feels basic. Where's the 360 degree camera? The blind spot monitor? Skoda needs to up their game.

It's good enough for me. As long as that works well, I use Android Auto anyway so I’m happy. The system of the Kushaq is smooth and does the job.

It is a matter of preference I think. Some people like the more minimalist system of the Kushaq. If you want all the bells and whistles, the Korean cars do give you more.

I do miss some features that came to me with a Hyundai though. The core functionality is solid, and it’s very responsive. For better driving dynamics, I’m okay with it.

The Kushaq’s system is good, but it is less modern than a Creta. For Skoda to remain competitive, they really need to step up their infotainment game.

It’s not overly complicated, which I actually like. It’s easy to get distracted by too many features. The system in the Kushaq offers me what I need without drowning me in options I will never use.
Is the premium the Kushaq commands over its rivals worth it for its build quality and long term reliability?
07 January 2025 05:16
Absolutely worth it. Compared to its rivals, the Kushaq feels so much more solid. It’s really noticeable in the build quality, especially on highways.
