Is the Alcazar's 1.5L turbo petrol engine underpowered for a 7 seater?

It's all about expectations. If you come from a smaller car, you will find the Alcazar very powerful. If you’re accustomed to larger SUVs, or you regularly need to haul heavy loads, you may feel shortchanged. It is a compromise between having power and being efficient.
Is the Alcazar's 1.5L turbo petrol engine underpowered for a 7 seater?

I can say as an Alcazar owner that the engine is fine for 90% of driving situations. But if you’re loaded down on the highways, you might wish for more power. After all, how often do you actually do that?

It’s not just the power, it’s the tuning. The DCT gearbox isn't too kind with the turbo engine, and there's a bit of lag and jerky shifting. Probably a larger NA engine would drive smoother in regular day to day driving.
Will the 7e's potential as a 7 seater come at the expense of performance?

7 seats in a performance EV? That's trying to do too much. It will surely reduce the range and flying characteristics. Mahindra should do 5 seats and go for maximum performance.

I disagree. It's way more practical for families with 7 seats. Not everyone wants to sacrifice performance for space. This could be a game-changer.

The real question here is how usable that third row is going to be. Basically, if it's cramped, it's not worth the performance trade off. The packaging is critical for Mahindra.

Electric powertrains are different, and you’re all forgetting it. With that much power, the extra weight might not negatively affect performance as much as you’d think.

I'm more worried about range. In an EV every extra kilo counts. A fully loaded 7-seater configuration could have a major impact on the range from something like 120 to under 60 miles.
Will the 7e's potential as a 7 seater come at the expense of performance?

It could actually be brilliant. Picture a 7 seater that can beat most 5 seater ICE SUVs. This would be unique to the market.

We'll see how they roll it out. Perhaps they will provide 5 and 7 seat versions to meet different requirements. Key here could be flexibility.

The high seating is great! A much better view of the road ahead is super helpful in city traffic.
Is the Ignis’s high seating position a gimmick, or a genuinely useful characteristic?

I think it's mostly a gimmick, and I don't think it's a gimmick I'd like to have. It’s not like you’re sitting in an actual SUV, but you do sit a little higher. It just makes the car feel even taller and less stable.

I’m someone with back problems, and the higher seating position is genuinely useful. Lower cars are a lot harder to get in and out of.

The high seating is nice, but there is a cost to headroom. Those taller might have to hunch a bit.

I applaud the effort to be different but I would rather have better handling than a slightly higher view.
