Is the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 as reliable and as well built as the hype suggests?

Decent build quality, not great. Mine has had a few niggles – nothing major, but enough to be a pain in the arse. I guess it's the price you pay for that RE character.

The reliability issues are exaggerated by people. My friend's Kawasaki and my Cruiser 650 have been as reliable. The main thing is to find a good dealer to service.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not as bullet proof as a Honda. Oil leaking is not the nightmare that some people make it out to be, however. If you treat it right, it’s a solid bike.

It has great reliability but the build quality is kind of low. Some little things, such as switches and plastics, feel a bit cheap. At least working on yourself is easy!
Can the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 be a good choice for long distance touring?
09 January 2025 10:14
I had a blast on my Cruiser 650 and took it on a 3000 km trip. The engine is happy cruising at highway speeds and it's comfortable enough for long days. All you need to do is some soft bags and you’re ready to go.
Can the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 be a good choice for long distance touring?
09 January 2025 10:14
Okay for touring, not great. After a few hours the seat becomes uncomfortable and the lack of wind protection is painful on highways. If you're touring, there are better options.
Can the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 be a good choice for long distance touring?

As a touring bike for the price it's hard to beat. It’s not as plush as a Gold Wing, but it has character. It’s also easy to keep up on the road if something goes wrong.
Can the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 be a good choice for long distance touring?

I do love touring on my Cruiser 650, but it does have its limitations. The little fuel tank means lots of stops and it's a bit of a struggle with two up riding and full luggage. But solo? It's perfect.
Can the Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 be a good choice for long distance touring?
09 January 2025 10:14
A laid back touring bike, it is. The Cruiser 650 is a great choice if you don’t mind the journey and you are not in a hurry. It won’t keep up with dedicated touring bikes on long highway stretches, but it’s a fun way to get around.
Is upgrading from a 350cc bike to Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 worth it?
09 January 2025 10:14
Absolutely worth it! The 650 twin is a whole different animal. More powerful, smoother and way more fun on highways. Not to mention you won't outgrow it as fast as a 350.
Is upgrading from a 350cc bike to Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 worth it?

If you’re just riding in the city, honestly I’d say stick with the 350. The 650 is great, but it’s too much for stop and go traffic. But if you’re doing lots of long rides, then save your money.
Is upgrading from a 350cc bike to Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 worth it?
09 January 2025 10:14
That depends on how you ride. If you don't want to go fast and like to cruise, the 350 is fine. If you want something that can do group rides with bigger bikes, the 650 is the way to go.
Is upgrading from a 350cc bike to Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 worth it?

Upgraded from a Classic 350 to the Cruiser 650 and I love the extra power but miss the simplicity of the 350. The 650 needs more maintenance, and is less fuel efficient. It's a trade-off.
Is upgrading from a 350cc bike to Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 worth it?
09 January 2025 10:14
The 650 is definitely an upgrade, but don’t expect it to be a rocket. But it’s still a Royal Enfield, so it’s more about the experience than outright performance. If that’s okay with you, go for it!

Within months the chrome on the exhaust pipes started to blue. Disappointing for the price.

If you take care of it, it holds up fine. It’s definitely more work than a regular paint job.

I've seen some bad examples, but I don't think it's because of the bike, I think that's down to owner neglect.

The tank and side panels stay nice but the mirrors can get pitted easily.

It's a mixed bag. Some areas are great, others not so great. Over time you will expect some imperfections.
