The consumer side was the biggest influence of the E2O. What it did was get people talking about EVs and that they can work for daily commutes. It got the market thinking about the idea of electric cars.
What role did the Reva E2O play in the development of future EVs in India?

The E2O had some connected car features which were ahead of their time. I bet this helped other manufacturers to focus on tech and connectivity in their EVs. Every EV now boasts of its smart features.
What role did the Reva E2O play in the development of future EVs in India?

The E2O taught us one big lesson: a normal form factor is important. Do you notice how all successful EVs now look just like their petrol counterparts? That's likely the E2O's polarizing design talking.
What role did the Reva E2O play in the development of future EVs in India?

While the tech may not have been influenced by the E2O, business strategies certainly were. Its failure proved that you can't do EVs alone, and that's why existing manufacturers are leading the EV race now.
What role did the Reva E2O play in the development of future EVs in India?

I believe the biggest influence the E2O had was on Mahindra itself. It taught them a lot, and that’s why they’re now concentrating on bigger, more practical EVs such as the XUV400 rather than smaller city cars.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?
31 December 2024 10:36
Absolutely! If I give you a modern E2O with 200km range, fast charging, and a price tag under 10 lakhs, they will sell like hotcakes. Because of its small size and ease of parking, it is perfect for crowded cities where people want something easy to park but don't want to buy a Nano.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?

I'm skeptical. The Indians still prefer bigger cars, and with the Tata already dominating the affordable EV space, there may not be any space for a tiny city EV. It would have to be really cheap to compete.

They could make it work, they just need to make it look more premium. Make it small, but make it a smart urban commuter for young professionals with an upmarket interior and lots of tech, not a budget option.

Now might be the perfect timing. Fuel prices are soaring and traffic is getting worse; a small, efficient EV makes a lot of sense. They would have to get the pricing right – it will have to be much cheaper than the Tigor EV for the car to succeed.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?
31 December 2024 10:36
I think it would do well, particularly if they offered it as a subscription. And while young people in cities probably don’t want to own a car outright, they’d love an affordable, all inclusive EV subscription for their daily commute.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?

It could be a hit but not in a personal vehicle. I can certainly see it working great as a shared mobility solution, sort of electric Zoom cars across the city. You can park easily and it’s great for short trips.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?

They would have to expand the concept a bit. Make it a little bit bigger, add a little back seat but keep it under 3.5 meters for tax benefits. It’s basically an electric WagonR — practical but with a modern EV twist.
Could the Reva E2O be successful if it came back today with modern tech?

If not, why not make it a modular platform? It would be a base model as a cheap runabout but offer add ons such as better batteries, more powerful motors, or luxury interiors. Let people make it their own to their needs and budgets.
