It's perfect for learning! On the one hand, light enough to be maneuvered easily, but with enough power to pull off proper stunts. Just invest in some crash protection first.

Start on a cheap used DRZ400SM or something, no way. When you're learning stunts, you're gonna drop the bike a lot and those KTM plastics ain't cheap.

The real problem is that it’s probably too easy to stunt on. The bike is so capable, you could develop bad habits. If you start on something slower, you can build the skills properly.

It's a great middle ground. Fun enough to be powerful, but not crazy enough to immediately run it doing a wheelie. Just respect the learning curve.

Learn to actually ride the thing properly first, forget stunting. Don’t try to be a YouTube star before you master cornering and body position.

The problem is insurance. If you tell them you're going to stunt it, good luck finding affordable coverage. Might be better off with a dedicated stunt bike.

For backing it in supermoto techniques it will be amazing. That’s exactly what you want in that style of riding, that light weight and flickability.

You know, supermoto's are supposed to be a little abused. It should be fine to some learning drops as long as you protect the important bits.

Tall riders will love it! Perfect for legs that are long. It might be a bit small for really heavy guys though.

So I'm 6'2" and 220lbs and most small bikes feel like toys. I’d probably overwork that engine on the highway, but this one could be fun.

It's all about technique. A small bike can dance, if a skilled bigger rider can make it do that. And the SMC R has adjustable suspension, which you can dial in.

To be honest, KTM just tends to make their bikes for taller riders. I bet it’ll be more roomy than you’d think it would be.

Height isn’t as much of an issue as weight. If you're pushing 250lbs+ you might want more bike, but a tall skinny guy will be just fine.

Remember, supermotos are supposed to be thrown around. A bigger rider would probably rather have more leverage over the bike.

Test ride it if you are worried. All bodies are different and you won’t know until you sit on it and take it for a spin.

It's a KTM, so yeah, it won't be a Honda. If you know your way around tools, it's not so bad. Just do oil changes and valve checks and you'll be fine.

These things are money pits, forget it. Some new issue will have you going to the dealer every other month. If you want reliability, stick to Japanese.

It's all relative. It’s gonna be a piece of cake to maintain compared to a dirt bike. It's going to be a bit more work than a Ninja 400. Depends on your perspective.

Now the 390 engine is pretty well sorted. Most of the kinks have been ironed out by early ones, but they did have some issues. You just need to follow the manual.

Because supermotos get abused, expect to replace wear items such as brake pads and tires more often. That's true for any bike ridden hard.
