For the segment, I'd say it's pretty darn good. It is clean layout, and the silver accents and textured surfaces really add to it. It’s way more upscale than my old Maruti.

It's all relative, isn't it? Yeah, it’ll feel premium, compared to a 5 year old car. On its own, it doesn’t seem like much, but put it next to a Kia Seltos or even a higher trim Creta, and it doesn’t seem so fancy anymore. That’s good, but don’t get carried away.

I believe that people are confusing 'modern' with 'premium'. The Venue’s interior is certainly contemporary and well designed, but premium? That's stretching it. If you look closely, it’s still got plenty of hard plastics.

I've been owning a Venue for a year now, and I can tell you the interior has held up well, and still impresses me. Not luxury car level, but for the money, it definitely does punch above its weight. It’s also spot on ergonomics.
But does the Hyundai Venue’s 1.2L naturally aspirated engine feel underpowered for highway driving?

It's not a powerhouse by any means but I've managed it on highways. All you need to do is plan your overtakes slightly better and use your gears smartly. The difference is really in the expectations – if you are coming from a more powerful vehicle, you will feel the difference.

I have the 1.2L and honestly it struggles on inclines when loaded up. It's ok on flat highways, but stick some hills and passengers in there and you'll be wishing for more oomph. Fine for city use though.

People tend to overstate the lack of power. It's not going to win drag races, but for normal driving, even on highways, it's fine. I travel 300km regularly and never felt unsafe or underpowered.

If you’re accustomed to turbocharged engines, the 1.2L NA will feel slow. It's all about driving style though. It's surprisingly capable and I've learned to keep momentum. It’s plus, the fuel has very good efficiency.

I wish I didn't go for the turbo version. Around town it's fine, but once on the highways, with a full car, it feels strain. If you do a lot of highway miles, the turbo is a serious consideration.

It's a mixed bag. It's peppy enough in the city. It cruises fine at 100km/h on highways, but you need to plan a bit when overtaking. It’s not dangerously underpowered, but it’s not a rocket, either.

In reality, I actually like the linear power delivery of the NA engine over the turbo for daily driver use. It’s smoother and more predictable. It’s not fast, sure, but it’s more than enough for 90% of driving situations.

The interior looks very clean, but I will admit it can be a bit of a pain to adjust the AC while on the road. It still feels premium, though.

As a person who is not super tech savvy, I don't like that there are no physical buttons. I miss being able to adjust things without looking at the road.

I had to get used to it, it took me a week or two, but now I love the tech heavy interior. Driving this thing feels like I’m in a spaceship versus my old car!

I'm afraid those touch panels will not last very long. In a few years, what happens when the screen starts to get glitchy? It seems like an expensive fix.

It's cool tech, but I wish Hyundai had settled on a middle ground. Perhaps physical controls for the things you want to have control of all the time, like your climate and volume, but then touch for the things you want to adjust less often?

I'm all for it as a gadget lover. With technology, cars should evolve and the Tucson does feel modern and up to date. What’s more, software can get better over time with updates.

The touch controls were just so different, I actually returned my Tucson. Everything else about the car I loved but safety has to come first for me so it's a shame.

I cross shopped the Tucson with the BMW X1 and honestly, I felt the Hyundai was more premium inside. It doesn’t have the badge, but I got way more features for my money.

The Tucson is a Hyundai, and it's nice, but it's still a Hyundai. It’s a particular feeling you get when driving a luxury brand that the Tucson can’t come close to, no matter how many features they stuff in.
