Is the Hyundai Creta EV a whole new electric SUV experience, or just another electric SUV?

The truth is, the success of the Creta EV will depend on the pricing. If Hyundai can price it right, then it could be huge. However, if it's priced like the Kona Electric, it may not succeed.

I think this is a good middle ground. Not everyone wants a futuristic looking EV – some people just want a familiar car that is electric. That’s exactly what those buyers would need.

Game-changer? Nah. But it doesn't need to be. Hyundai's just filling in the blanks, and the Creta EV should sell well enough. It's certainly not revolutionary, but it's the right step in the right direction for mainstream EV adoption.
Do the Creta EV’s range anxiety reducing features actually make a difference?

And I think these features will help definitely. It has a pretty solid 473 km range, and the fact that you can count on finding charging stations is a big plus. It’s not perfect, but it is a step in the correct direction.
Do the Creta EV’s range anxiety reducing features actually make a difference?

The problem is more psychological than anything else. These features will help a bit, but until there’s a charger on every corner like a petrol pump, people will still worry.

The real game changer here is the rapid charging. That's a lunch break on a road trip if I can get 80% charge in under an hour. Just that could convince a lot of people to switch.
Do the Creta EV’s range anxiety reducing features actually make a difference?

Hyundai needs to educate consumers, too, but it's a good start. But if people don’t know how to use them effectively, all of these features are useless.
Do the Creta EV’s range anxiety reducing features actually make a difference?

I'm skeptical. The lack of charging infrastructure is the real issue, and these features are nice. No amount of car features will fully solve range anxiety until that improves dramatically.

Mapped charging stations are a good idea, but how often will it be updated? If it becomes out of date it can become more of an annoyance than a help.

I am a current EV owner and can say these features do make a difference. But it’s not just about changing your planning, it’s also about changing your mindset. With the right tools, the Creta EV seems to help with that transition.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?
02 January 2025 11:43
When driving in the city, the EV will feel way more responsive due to the instant torque. I also bet that it will be more fun to drive than the ICE version, especially for stop and go traffic.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?

Acceleration is not the only performance. The extra batteries may weigh it down in the corners a little. I'm interested to see what they've done to tune the suspension for this.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?
02 January 2025 11:43
The EV ICE Creta isn't going to be a performance car by any means, so it might actually be an improvement. For this segment, that 7.9 second 0-100 time is pretty decent.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?

The big concern for me though is how it will do in extreme heat. Will we see a drop in range or throttling in performance during Indian summers? That may be a deal breaker for some.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?
02 January 2025 11:43
Long distance driving will be the real test. It is famous for being a comfortable highway cruiser in ICE form. If the EV can match that while maintaining good range, then it’s a no brainer.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?

And let’s not forget about maintenance. A performance factor in its own right, performance of your wallet!, is that the EV should theoretically need less regular maintenance.
Will the Creta EV be as good as its ICE counterpart?
02 January 2025 11:43
It'll be a totally different driving experience, I think. They are not better or worse than the other, just different. Long-time ICE Creta owners might have to get used to it.
Will the adoption of the Creta EV be helped or hindered by its familiar design?
02 January 2025 11:43
I am positive that the familiar design is smart. Not everyone is looking for a spaceship looking car. That way, Hyundai can entice EV enthusiasts as well as regular Creta fans who wonder what it would be like to go electric.
Will the adoption of the Creta EV be helped or hindered by its familiar design?
02 January 2025 11:43
It's a missed opportunity. The design should be the future, EVs. It just seems like they threw a battery in a normal Creta and said done.
Will the adoption of the Creta EV be helped or hindered by its familiar design?
02 January 2025 11:43
The adoption will definitely benefit from the familiarity of the design. This makes the switch to electric less scary for people on the fence. The Creta is already popular, so why mess with a winning formula, plus?
