Toyota has decided to discontinue the Platinum Etios sedan in India, marking the end of an era for this reliable and economical vehicle. The Toyota Platinum Etios Limited Edition, introduced in 2020, was a final attempt to revamp the Etios series with premium features such as a new paint scheme, dual-tone upholstery, and an advanced 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This edition was available in both petrol and diesel variants, priced at Rs. 7.84 lakh and Rs. 8.94 lakh respectively. I think these additions made the car more appealing, but it was clear that the Etios was nearing its end.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the Platinum Etios Limited Edition in 2018, which included exclusive features like a unique Premium Phantom Brown color, dual-tone seats, and a new pattern armrest. The petrol model was powered by a 1.5-litre engine producing 90 PS, while the diesel model had a 1.4-litre engine producing 68 PS. Both engines were coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. I believe these limited editions helped keep the Etios relevant for a bit longer.

The Toyota Platinum Etios has been praised for its safety features, including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts across all variants. It also achieved a 4-star rating in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. This emphasis on safety made the Etios a reliable choice for many buyers. I think this focus on safety was one of the cars strongest selling points.

I believe these updates helped maintain the cars market presence despite increasing competition.
