Marcello Gandini, the legendary designer behind the Tata TAMO RaceMo, passed away at the age of 85. Tata Motors has put the entire TAMO RaceMo project up for sale as part of their efforts to streamline their business operations. Despite the cars public appeal and showcase at various auto shows, the project has been shelved due to significant disruptions in the auto industry. I believe this is a missed opportunity for an indigenous Indian sports car.

The Tata TAMO RaceMo was showcased in an all-electric variant at the 2018 Auto Expo. This version featured a 200hp electric motor with a projected range of 350 km and distinct blue accents on the body. The electric model was part of Tatas push towards alternative fuel sources. Tata Motors announced that they would be canceling the TAMO sub-brand and the Racemo sports car due to cost-cutting measures. The decision was driven by a slump in their core commercial vehicles unit, which resulted in significant financial losses. This move was part of Tatas plan to reduce platforms from six to two. Its a shame to see such an ambitious project go.

The Tata TAMO RaceMo had two variants: the road-based Racemo and the track-ready Racemo+. Both variants were designed to capture the essence of a sports car with their sleek design and powerful engine. I think the track-ready version would have been a thrill to drive.
