I've been tracking the Tata Safari Dark Edition closely in India, and it's evolved into a standout choice for those craving a menacing, all-black aesthetic on this premium seven-seater SUV. Starting at around Rs 19.04 lakh ex-showroom for the base Pure X Dark diesel variant, it rocks an Oberon Black exterior with gloss black accents replacing chrome on the grille, door handles, roof rails, and 18-inch Blackstone alloy wheels, complete with #Dark badging on the fenders. Inside, the Blackstone Matrix dashboard pairs with Nappa Granite black leatherette seats featuring blue tri-arrow perforations, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and an air purifier—perfect for our humid conditions. Power comes from the familiar 2.0L Kryotec diesel pumping out 168 bhp and 350 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual or automatic, delivering 16.3 kmpl mileage, while newer petrol Dark Editions introduce a 1.5L Hyperion turbo with 170 PS and 280 Nm for smoother city runs. Standout features like the panoramic sunroof, Boss Mode for the co-driver seat, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a five-star Global NCAP rating with six airbags make it family-ready, though the limited Stealth Edition at Rs 26.90 lakh offers a matte twist with just 2,700 units. On Indian roads, it handles highways effortlessly but feels bulky in tight traffic, positioning it as a value-packed rival to the Alcazar.

The Facelift Tata Safari has been launched which has been modified cosmetically, new features have been added like ADAS and there is a 12.3 inch screen infotainment system as well. These updates were also given to the Dark Edition.
