In August 2021, an SSC Ultimate Aero with only 1,400 miles on the clock was put up for sale during Monterey Car Week, priced at $225,000. Despite its rarity, the Ultimate Aeros prices have not kept pace with other supercars of its era. I think this is a steal for such a powerful and rare car.

In 2013, SSC introduced the Ultimate Aero XT, a special version built to celebrate the end of the Ultimate Aeros production. Only one XT was built, featuring a new 6.9-litre all-aluminium twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a seven-speed paddle-shifted gearbox. This was a fitting farewell to an iconic model.

In 2009, SSC updated the Ultimate Aero TT, increasing its power by 15% and redesigning the nose for better aerodynamics. The new model also included an AeroBrake system and could reach a top speed of over 267 mph. This update showed SSCs commitment to continuous improvement.

In 2009, SSC announced plans to produce the Ultimate Aero EV, an electric version of the Ultimate Aero, but it never entered production. The EV was supposed to produce 1,000 hp and reach a top speed of 208 mph. Its interesting to think about what could have been if this project had moved forward.

The Ultimate Aeros production was limited to just 24 examples, making it a rare and exclusive supercar. Despite its rarity, the prices of the Ultimate Aero have not kept pace with other supercars of its era, such as the Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari Enzo. I believe this makes it a hidden gem for collectors.

On September 13, 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero set a new Guinness World Record by reaching an average top speed of 256.14 miles per hour on a rural paved road in Eastern Washington State. This record stood for three years until it was surpassed by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. I believe this achievement solidified SSCs place in the supercar world.

The SSC Ultimate Aero features an all-carbon body, a flat undertray, and twin venturi tunnels for enhanced aerodynamics without a large rear wing. This design was ahead of its time and remains rare even among todays mid-ranking supercars. I believe this design choice was a key factor in its performance.

Road testers in 2007 praised the Ultimate Aeros sound and chassis rigidity but criticized its mid-1990s styling and interior. Despite these concerns, the cars performance figures placed it alongside or even above some of todays supercars. I think the interior could have been improved, but the performance was undeniable.

Between 2004 and 2007, prototypes of the Ultimate Aero were produced and tested. The car was designed to compete with European supercars like the Bugatti Veyron, offering similar performance at half the price. This ambitious project marked a significant milestone for American supercar manufacturing.

Founded by Jerod Shelby in 1998, SSC North America aimed to design and manufacture an American supercar that could stand up against European competitors. The companys vision and resolve led to the creation of the Ultimate Aero, a car that would soon make headlines for its speed and performance. I think Jerod Shelbys vision was truly innovative.
