The Skoda Octavia Diesel Elegance Automatic, which was once a popular choice in India, has been discontinued due to the companys failure to make it BS6 RDE compliant. This decision has been met with disappointment from fans of the model, who appreciated its powerful 1.9-litre turbocharged diesel engine and comfortable ride. I think this move is a significant loss for the Indian market, as the Octavia had a loyal following.

In 2021, Skoda launched the fourth-generation Octavia in India, but it received a lukewarm response, partly because it lacked features like a sunroof and ventilated seats, and there was no diesel engine option for heavy users. The car was priced around Rs. 37 lakh on-road, which was not very appealing to consumers who prefer midsize SUVs in that price range. I believe Skoda missed an opportunity by not tailoring the features more to Indian consumer preferences.

The Skoda Octavia Elegance with an automatic transmission was notable for its 1.9-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which produced 90bhp at 4000rpm. This variant managed a 0-60kmph timing of 6.4 seconds and reached 100kmph in 15.3 seconds. Although not as quick as its manual counterpart, it offered a smooth and comfortable driving experience. I believe this automatic version was a good option for those seeking ease of driving in city conditions.

Nearly three years after its introduction, the Skoda Octavia finally got an Automatic transmission variant for the 1.9 TDI Elegance trim in October 2004. This variant came with a 4-Speed automatic transmission and was more expensive than its manual sibling by Rs. 80,000 at the time of launch. It included features like ABS as standard and a dot matrix display in the instrument cluster. I think this addition was a welcome move, but it came a bit late to make a significant impact.

The initial batch of Skoda Octavia Elegance models in India had somewhat dull-looking interiors, but the later variants, especially the Elegance trim, brought more luxurious interiors with beige-black color coordination and excellent seat support. The addition of features like rear wiper, climatronic AC, and leather upholstery enhanced the overall comfort and appeal of the car. I think these interior upgrades significantly improved the driving and passenger experience.
