Skoda Fabia Petrol (NEW) Updates

The new Skoda Fabia, particularly the Monte Carlo version, boasts a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and is front-wheel drive. The car accelerates from 0-100km/h in 8 seconds and has an impressive fuel consumption figure of 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres. I think this engine provides a great balance between performance and efficiency.

The Skoda Fabia has seen significant improvements in its interior and design. The top-spec Monte Carlo model features a premium cabin with elements like a carbon-effect dashboard, contrasting stitching, and ambient lighting. The car also includes features such as a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, satellite navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The overall design makes it feel young and modern, which is perfect for its class.

Skoda has enhanced the practicality of the new Fabia, making it surprisingly spacious for a small car. The car is 100mm longer between the front and rear wheels compared to its predecessor, providing ample head and legroom in the back seats. It also features ISOFIX points for easy installation of baby seats and a panoramic glass roof option to make the cabin feel light and airy. I believe this added space will be a major selling point for families.

The Skoda Fabia is available with a range of petrol engines, including a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit with 80hp, two turbocharged versions of the same engine with 95hp and 110hp, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit with 150hp. The lower-powered models come with manual transmissions, while the higher-powered models offer automatic options. Notably, there is no electric or hybrid option available, which might be a drawback in todays market.

In terms of safety, the Skoda Fabia has been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP in 2021. It comes equipped with standard safety features such as automatic emergency brakes, lane assist, and E-Call+, which can automatically call for help in the event of an accident. These features make it one of the safest small cars on the market.

The new Skoda Fabia has a more refined and comfortable ride compared to its predecessors. It features a firmer suspension setup that reduces body roll during cornering but can feel a bit fidgety on the motorway. The cars steering is direct but lacks feedback, which might not instill confidence for spirited driving. However, it remains comfortable around town and handles tarmac defects well.

Skoda has focused on enhancing the family-friendly features of the Fabia. The car includes nifty surprise and delight features and emphasizes practicality. For instance, the cabin has plenty of storage, and the door handles have a modern and youthful design. The companys shift towards a more upmarket and family-oriented approach is evident in this model.

The design of the new Skoda Fabia has evolved to look more purposeful and uniform across the Skoda range. While it may not be as distinctive as previous models, the front end retains the unmistakable Skoda look with vertical grille slats and bonnet creases. The rear, however, has a more generic look similar to the Ford Focus.

The Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo model comes with several advanced features, including bi-LED headlights with a cornering function, LED daytime running lights, front and rear fog lights, and LED tail lights. It also includes convenience features like parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, and rain-sensing wipers. These additions make the car feel more premium and convenient to drive.

Skoda has emphasized the importance of comfort in the new Fabia, making it a key selling point. The cars suspension is tuned for comfort, especially around town, and it handles speed bumps and tarmac defects well. However, this comfort-focused approach means it lacks the fun factor of some of its competitors like the Renault Clio.
