Recent fake spy photos of a supposed 2027 Mitsubishi Evo XI have sparked false hopes among fans. These images, however, are based on old spy shots of the Mitsubishi Outlander and have been manipulated to look like a low-slung sports sedan. Despite the convincing design, Mitsubishi has shown no interest in reviving the Lancer Evolution. I think its a shame, as the Evo was a legend in its own right.

Designer Hycade has created a stunning 11th-generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution concept, drawing inspiration from the Evo X. The design features a gaping wide black grille, angular air intakes, sharp LED headlights, and a massive rear wing. Although this concept is not endorsed by Mitsubishi, it has garnered significant attention from enthusiasts. I believe this design captures the essence of what a modern Evo should look like.

Mitsubishi has reiterated its lack of interest in reviving the Lancer Evolution, focusing instead on electrifying its lineup of crossovers and SUVs. The last production model of the Lancer Evo X Final Edition was in 2016, and since then, there have been no official plans to bring back the model. The Mitsubishi Lancer nameplate continues to be used in select Asian markets, particularly in China and Taiwan, where the Lancer Grand is still produced. However, this model lacks the performance heritage of the Evolution variant and is more of a continuation of the standard Lancer design. The absence of a new Lancer Evo has left a significant void among car enthusiasts.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Final Edition, produced in 2016, was the last of its kind, featuring a 291-horsepower engine and 300 lb-ft of torque. Only 1,000 units were produced, and it was exclusively available in Japan. This final edition maintained the performance and capabilities of the Evo X, but it marked the end of an era for the Lancer Evolution.

Mitsubishi discontinued the production of the Lancer and Lancer Evolution, with the last models rolling off the assembly line in 2016. Despite the discontinuation, the legacy of the Lancer lives on through its passionate fan base and the continued use of the Lancer nameplate in certain markets. I think its a testament to how beloved the Evo was.

The Lancer Evolutions impact on the automotive world, particularly in rally racing, has been significant. Its performance and handling made it a favorite among enthusiasts and competitors alike. Although Mitsubishi has moved away from performance models, the Evos influence can still be felt in the automotive community.

Speculations about the potential revival of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution as a crossover or an all-electric sports sedan have been circulating, but Mitsubishi has shown little interest in these proposals. The companys current focus is on its electrification strategy for crossovers and SUVs. I believe a modern, electric Evo could be exciting, but it seems unlikely for now.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution went through 10 generations before its production ended in 2016. Each generation brought significant improvements in performance and design, making the Evo a legendary performance car. Its absence has left the Subaru WRX without a traditional rival in the market.
