The Maruti Jimny is one of the most exciting SUVs to come out of India. It's off-road capabilities and rugged design make it a great option for those who want to explore the outdoors. The Jimny is expected to be priced between 9 Lakhs and will be available from March 2023 in seven colour options. Maruti has already opened bookings for the SUV for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the Jimny Thunder edition, which has seen a significant price cut, making the vehicle more affordable. The Jimny is now available starting at Rs. 10.74 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Zeta variant. This move is aimed at boosting the SUVs retail sales, which have been sluggish since its launch. I believe this price reduction could be a game-changer, making the Jimny more competitive in the market.

Maruti Suzuki is offering substantial discounts on the Jimny, with benefits up to Rs. 2.3 lakh, in an effort to clear inventories. The base Zeta variant, which was initially priced at Rs. 12.74 lakh, can now be purchased for Rs. 9.99 lakh if the customer avails a loan from Nexa dealerships. Despite these discounts, dealers are still struggling to sell the vehicle. I think the pricing strategy and positioning of the Jimny as a lifestyle vehicle have been major hurdles.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been criticized for its poor market positioning, with many experts suggesting it should have been marketed as a family SUV rather than a lifestyle vehicle. This misalignment has led to it failing to appeal to a broader consumer base, despite its strong off-roading capabilities. I believe that rebranding it as a family SUV could have made it more appealing to the masses.

Maruti Suzukis Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee, has stated that the Jimny is a true off-roader and a lifestyle product, which will take time for Indian consumers to understand. The vehicle has sold only 17,009 units in FY24, significantly lower than other Maruti Suzuki SUVs. I think patience and strategic marketing will be key to increasing its sales.

The Maruti Jimny Zeta variant is highlighted as the most value-for-money option, offering a 4WD setup, a 1.5-litre engine, and features like a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, it lacks some premium features available in the Alpha variant, such as a 9-inch touchscreen and LED headlights. I believe the Zeta variant strikes a good balance between price and features.
