Mahindra has discontinued the XUV500, including the top-of-the-line W11 variant, as part of their model lineup adjustments. The W11 was known for its updated 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine producing 155bhp and 360Nm of torque. I think this move might be a strategic step to make way for new models.

The Mahindra XUV500 W11 featured a premium interior with tan leather quilted upholstery, faux leather-covered dashboard and armrests, and a piano black finish on the centre console. However, the quality of plastics in the cabin remained a point of criticism. I believe this was a missed opportunity to elevate the overall luxury feel.

The XUV500 W11 had a significant update in its engine, introducing an electric variable geometry turbocharger (eVGT) which reduced turbo lag and improved performance. This made the vehicle more responsive and efficient, especially in mid-range cruising. Its a shame this tech wont be seen in new models for now.

In terms of safety, the XUV500 W11 was well-equipped with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with rollover mitigation, and hill hold and descent control. It also scored four out of five stars in the Australian NCAP crash tests. I think this safety suite was one of the strongest points of the vehicle.

The XUV500 W11 came with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, both paired with the 2.2-litre diesel engine. The gearbox, though reliable, had long rubbery throws which could be cumbersome in stop-and-go traffic. I think this was a minor but notable inconvenience.

The vehicle featured an advanced infotainment system compatible with smartphones and smartwatches through the Mahindra Blue Sense app. This allowed users to control various vehicle functions remotely. I believe this was a forward-thinking move in terms of connectivity.

The exterior design of the XUV500 W11 included updated tail lamps, a muscular ridge on the tailgate, and a new front bumper design. These changes enhanced the vehicles appearance without losing its original essence. I think the design updates were well-executed.

The XUV500 W11 had a spacious interior with large seats, though the quality of plastics was a recurring issue. The cabin also featured Arkamys-tuned speakers, but the audio quality was still average. I believe improving the plastics and audio would have made it a more compelling package.

Mahindra had priced the XUV500 W11 from Rs 18.84 lakh before its discontinuation. This placed it in a competitive segment against other SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Tata Harrier. I think the pricing was reasonable given the features and performance.

The XUV500 W11 boasted a range of convenience features including a remote trunk opener, automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel. These features added to the vehicles comfort and luxury appeal. I believe these features were a highlight of the model.

The 2018 update of the XUV500 W11 saw significant improvements in performance with the uprated 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This update made the vehicle more powerful and efficient, especially noticeable in highway cruising. I think this update was a major step forward for the model.
