Mahindra has announced the discontinuation of the diesel version of the KUV100, including the K2 variant, due to the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) regulations. This move is part of the companys plan to overhaul its powertrain portfolio. The KUV100 will now be available only in petrol and electric versions. I believe this decision will impact the vehicles appeal to those who prefer diesel engines, but it aligns with the industrys shift towards cleaner emissions.

The Mahindra KUV100 NXT, including the K2 variant, received a facelift in 2017, which included cosmetic changes and additional features. However, the mechanical aspects, including the engine, remained unchanged. This update aimed to enhance the vehicles appeal with new styling and improved interior features. I think the facelift was a necessary step to keep the KUV100 competitive in the market.

The Mahindra KUV100, including the K2 diesel variant, was known for its safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual front airbags (except for the base K2), and other safety enhancements like speed-sensing auto-door locks and ISOFIX child seat mounts in higher variants. These features were a significant selling point, especially for safety-conscious buyers. I believe these safety features were a strong selling point for the KUV100.

The Mahindra KUV100 K2 diesel variant was part of the initial launch in 2016, which saw significant demand with over 21,000 bookings in the first month. The vehicles unique design and compact SUV stance were major attractions. I think the initial success was a testament to Mahindras ability to tap into the sub-compact SUV market.

The Mahindra KUV100 K2 diesel variant was powered by a 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 turbocharged diesel engine, producing 77 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. This engine was designed for urban efficiency and came with features like micro-hybrid technology and Eco and Power drive modes. I believe this engine was a good fit for city driving, offering a balance between power and fuel efficiency.
