The Hyundai Xcent subcompact sedan has been removed from the companys India website, marking the end of its production run in the country. This move follows the launch of the new-generation model, which was introduced with a new name - the Hyundai Aura. The Xcent was Hyundai Indias first sub-4 metre sedan and had a significant presence in the taxi and fleet segments. I believe this change will help Hyundai reposition itself in the competitive subcompact sedan market.

Hyundai announced plans to launch a new-generation Xcent, which would later be known as the Hyundai Aura, to shake off the taxi image associated with the Xcent. The new model was expected to feature an all-new platform, better-performing engines, and enhanced design elements, including new alloy wheels and updated tail lights. I believe this strategy was necessary to attract more personal car buyers and revamp Hyundais presence in the subcompact sedan segment.

Hyundai updated the Xcent subcompact sedan with additional safety features across all variants, including ABS and EBD, along with dual front airbags. This update was part of Hyundais efforts to enhance safety standards in their vehicles, making the Xcent more competitive against other models like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze. I think this move was a positive step towards prioritizing safety in the segment.

The 2017 Hyundai Xcent facelift was launched in India, featuring significant design and cosmetic updates, including a revised grille, bumper, and reworked headlamp cluster. The facelift also introduced a new 1.2-litre diesel engine, enhancing the cars performance and appeal. I believe these updates made the Xcent look more upmarket and competitive in the market.

The Hyundai Xcent SX (O) diesel variant comes with a 1.2 litre U2 CRDi diesel engine, producing 73 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque. It features a manual transmission, ABS with EBD, driver and passenger airbags, and other amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and full automated temperature control. I think the combination of power and features makes this variant a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and feature-rich subcompact sedan.
