Latest Updates

There has been no recent news on a new Ford Figo Sports Edition, but the current generation of the Figo has been updated with features like a new gearbox and a Sports mode in the automatic variant. This suggests that Ford is still focusing on enhancing the driving experience, even if not specifically under the Sports Edition badge. I think this is a positive step, as it keeps the model competitive and appealing to a wider audience.

Although there hasnt been a recent launch specifically for the Ford Figo Sports Edition, the overall Figo model has seen significant updates over the years, including new engine options and smart features. However, the Sports Editions unique design elements have not been carried forward in the latest models. I believe that reintroducing some of these sporty features could help Ford regain some of the lost ground in the hatchback segment.

The Ford Figo Sports Edition, launched in India in 2017, came with a price tag of between Rs. 6.32 - 7.22 lakhs (ex-Delhi). This variant was based on the Titanium trim and featured cosmetic upgrades such as a sporty grille, side skirts, and a rear spoiler. However, it lacked adjustable headrests. I think the Sports Edition was a great move to give the Figo a more aggressive look, but the lack of adjustable headrests was a missed opportunity.

The Ford Figo Sports Edition also saw some mechanical tweaks, though the engine performance was somewhat criticized. The 1.2L petrol engine, while adequate, did not match the response of its predecessor at low rpms. Ford needed to work more on this engine to compete with other 1.2L petrol options in the market. I believe that with a bit more tuning, the Figo could have been a stronger contender in its segment.

In terms of market reception, the Ford Figo Sports Edition was an attempt to revamp the image of the Figo, which had not been as successful as its predecessor. The updates included new lower air intakes, revised headlamps, and plastic cladding over the wheel arches, giving it a crossover-like appearance. I think this was a good strategy to attract younger buyers who are looking for a sportier vibe.
