Eicher Motors and Polaris Industries announced the end of their joint venture, Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd., due to the Multix not meeting sales expectations. The production of the Eicher Polaris Multix Diesel MX was discontinued, but the company will continue to provide spares and service support for existing customers. This move marks the end of a five-year partnership that began in 2012. I think this decision was inevitable given the poor sales performance.

The Eicher Polaris Multix Diesel MX was known for its unique 3-in-1 adaptability, allowing it to serve as a family vehicle, cargo carrier, and power generator. It could generate up to 3 kilowatts of electricity, making it versatile for various needs. The vehicle underwent extensive testing for reliability and durability. I believe this feature was one of its strongest selling points, but it wasnt enough to drive sales.

Eicher Polaris expanded the availability of the Multix Diesel MX to new markets, including Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. The BS IV compliant version was priced at Rs. 3,43,000 (ex-showroom Jaipur) and was available in two variants: AX+ and MX. This expansion was part of their plan to reach 100 cities by the end of 2016. I think this was a good strategy, but it didnt translate into the expected sales boost.

The Multix Diesel MX was launched in August 2015, with an initial price starting from Rs. 2.59 lakh. It came with a 511cc and a 652cc diesel engine option, both with manual transmission. The vehicle was designed to cater to both family and business needs, offering a spacious cabin and large cargo capacity. I believe the pricing was competitive, but the market response was lukewarm.

Eicher Polaris invested Rs. 350 crores in setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, for the production of the Multix Diesel MX. The plant had an annual capacity of 60,000 units, which could be scaled up to 120,000 units. This investment was part of their commitment to providing high-quality vehicles. I think the investment was substantial, but it didnt yield the desired results.

The Eicher Polaris Multix Diesel MX was promoted as Indias first personal utility vehicle and was designed with a unique tubular frame structure and Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) for structural stability. It also featured a Pro Ride™ independent suspension system for a smooth ride on various road conditions. I believe these features were innovative, but perhaps not enough to capture a larger market share.

Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd. entered into strategic tie-ups with several financial institutions to offer auto retail finance options for the Multix Diesel MX, allowing customers to avail financing up to 90% of the vehicles price. This was aimed at making the vehicle more accessible to potential buyers. I think this was a smart move to ease the financial burden on customers.

The Multix Diesel MX was available in four colors: Rich Red, Bright Yellow, Pure White, and Soft Silver. It had a seating capacity of five people and offered a generous cabin space along with a large cargo capacity of 1918 liters. I believe the color options were vibrant and appealing.

The Eicher Polaris Multix Diesel MX was equipped with an X-PORT™ power take-off feature, which could generate power up to 3 kW, making it useful for powering various equipment like drilling machines, DJ systems, and water pumps. This feature was particularly beneficial for independent businessmen. I think this was a standout feature that set it apart from other vehicles in its class.
