Does the Tata Tiago’s high safety rating really mean real world protection?
The Tata Tiago has managed to get noticed for its impressive 4 star Global NCAP safety rating, which is rare at its price point. This has caused debates about whether crash test ratings really represent real world safety. While some say that the Tiago's sound build quality and safety features deliver actual protection in Indian roads. Some say that vehicle structure is less important than other factors, such as road design, driving behavior and emergency response. The discussion sometimes broadens into a comparison of the Tiago with competitors with lesser safety ratings but superior overall quality or reliability. It also raises questions about the trade off between safety ratings, build quality and other factors that go into making buying a budget car in India.
I have my doubts over how much of this will hold true in real Indian conditions. I wonder if our roads are so chaotic that the controlled crash tests don't actually simulate what happens in a real accident here. While the Tiago might be safer than some, it’s not invincible.
