The Hyundai Elantra is not a new car to be launched in India. It was previously launched in 2004 and discontinued in 2008 due to poor response from the market. Hyundai launched the all-new Neo Fluidic Elantra in August 2012. This sedan measures 4530mm in length, 1775mm in width, 1470mm in height having a wheel base of 2700mm and ground clearance of 185mm. It is available in three models named S, SX and L with two engine variants petrol and diesel.
It has 1.6-liter CRDi (common rail direct injection) VGT diesel engine that makes 1582cc of displacement. The power generated by this 16-valve CRDi engine is 127 bhp at 4000 rpm and the maximum torque generated is 265 Nm at 1900 rpm. Its 1.8-liter dual VTVT (Variable Timing Valve Train) engine makes 1797cc of displacement. The power generated by this 16-valve VTVT engine is 148 bhp at 6500 rpm and the torque produced is 180 Nm at 4700 rpm. Starting from still, this sedan can reach a mark of 100 kmph in just 15 seconds and has a top speed of 190 kmph. It has a boot space of 420 litres. With fuel tank capacity of 56 litres it gives an average mileage of 16 kmpl for petrol engine and 22 kmpl for diesel engine.
The Hyundai Elantra has 6-speed manual transmission and an option for 6-speed automatic transmission in SX models (both diesel and petrol). The rack & pinion type steering is electrically powered and gives a minimum turning radius of 5.67 metres. The McPherson strut is used in the front axle while the coupled torsion beam is used in the rear axle. With EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) the front and rear tyres are provided with disc brakes. The leather wrapped steering wheel can be adjusted for reek and reach settings thus making perfect driving position. The air conditioner of this sedan is quite powerful and also allows dual zone climate control. The AC also allows heating of the cabin in winters and has rear ducts. The fuel lid and boot can be opened remotely. All the windows of Elantra are electrically powered.
The 2DIN music system supports CD, Mp3, USB and Aux-in and the music is played over six inbuilt speakers. The mounted controls on steering wheel can be used to control the audio. The driver seat has 10 ways adjustable setting with lumbar support that provides maximum comfort while driving. The safety features of this sedan include front, side and curtain air bags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), central locking, rear seat belts and parking sensors. The engine immobilizer prevents the engine from starting without the original key. The headlamps of this sedan gets activated automatically depending upon the visibility conditions outside. The front fog lamps and rear defogger allows visibility in foggy and dust weather. The ORVM and the bumpers have the same color as the body of the Elantra. It comes with 16-inch tubeless tyres with alloy wheels.
Hyundai Elantra is offered with a warranty of 4 years / 100000 kms, whichever is earlier. It is available in six colors named Phantom Black, Sleek Silver, Bronze, Maharaja Red, Twilight Blue and Coral White.
