Fiat is one of the major automobile manufacturers of Europe from Italy. It also has been a great competitor in Indian automobile market with its beautiful hatchbacks and luxurious sedans. Past year, it made some major modifications in its earlier models, and launched quite a number of new variants of Linea and Punto. Fiat Linea has been a constant competitor in its segment with its great looks, powerful features and outstanding performance. On January 3, 2012, Fiat India released an updated version of Linea with added comfort and newer entertainment features, beautiful new shades and better ground clearance
The exterior of this new Linea is blessed with beautiful and superb design and has features such as a long hood and nicely designed nose in front, human-eye shaped dual parabola and automatic headlamps that turns on and off according to outside light conditions and remains on for even some programmable time after turning off the car, outstanding front radiator grille with silver finished slats which have the company's badge in regular style, sporty front fog lamp slots, a distinctive front bonnet, front windshield with automatic rain-sensing wipers, electrically adjustable body colored ORVMs, chrome finished body side mouldings, black outside door handles with chrome finishing, 15-inch and 16-inch Aluminium Alloy wheels with multi spokes and steel wheel covers in some variants, wide and aggressive tail lamp slots which also houses rear fog lamps, a concise trunk gate, sporty antenna at rear, stylish exhaust pipe with single chrome tip and a rear slanted windshield with timer based defogger. The new Linea has a length of 4560mm, width of 1730mm and height of 1487mm as its dimension and has a large wheelbase of 2603mm for a stable ride. It has a new high ground clearance of 185/190mm for a bump free ride and has a minimum turning radius of 5.4m for easy cruising in city traffic and in tight parking spots. It has a kerb weight of 1210kgs and a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres.
The new Linea is fully equipped with beautiful and luxurious interior features and a lot of comfort features which includes premium Italian leather-trimmed upholstery with dual-tone interiors, leather finished tilt-able steering wheel with Blue and Me controls for taking calls, reading SMSs and changing music by a Voice Command Activation Technology, leather finished gear knob, roof light with dimming effect, vanity mirror at front passenger's side, rear roof light, a foldable key, collapsible rear sun curtains, dual toned huge dashboard, adjustable seats, a powerful AC with Automatic Climate Control System and unique rear AC vents, a digitally interfaced vehicle information computer behind the steering wheel for changing alarm buzzer volume and display color intensity and houses digital odometer, external temperature indicator, real-time mileage indicator, service schedule reminder, trip activation analytics, distance-to-empty indicator, programmable speed limit buzzer, front passenger airbag deactivation and date and clock setting, display screens at dashboard with orange back-lit, sun-glass holder, painted inside door handles, front armrest with three-level adjustment and a glove box, a rear armrest with a glove box and a cup holder, remote tailgate opening, remote key-less entry and all-four power windows with Auto Down feature. There is also an integrated music system with CD/MP3 player, FM Radio, an in-built USB port, steering mounted Audio and Blue&MeTM controls, six speakers and a remote control. The interior also has an enormous boot capacity of 500liters which can be further increased by folding the rear seats.
The new Linea has three engines to make you happy. There is a 1368cc, 1.4L, 16-valve, DOHC, E10 compliant, FIRE petrol engine with a maximum power of 90 bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 4500 rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox transmission. It gives a top speed of 165kmph and reaches 0-100kmph mark in 12.6 seconds and provides a mileage of 11.3kmpl in the cities while 14.6kmpl on the highways. Then, there is a 1248cc, 1.3L, 16-valve, DOHC, VGT technology, Multi-Jet diesel engine with a maximum power of 93 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 209 Nm at 2000 rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox transmission. It gives a top speed of 170kmph and reaches 0-100kmph mark in 13.8 seconds and provides a mileage of 17.2kmpl in the cities and 20.4kmpl on the highways. The last but not the least one is a new 1368cc, 1.4L, 16-valve, BSIV compliant, turbocharged, T-Jet petrol engine with a maximum power of 114 bhp at 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 207 Nm at 2200 rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox transmission. It gives a top speed of 186kmph and reaches 0-100kmph mark in just 11.14 seconds and provides a mileage of 11.3kmpl in the cities and 15.7kmpl on the highways.
The new Fiat Linea has a larger diameter front disk brakes and drum brakes at rear. The top model has front ventilated disk brakes and simple disk brakes at rear. The suspension system is an Independent Wheel, Helical Coil Spring, Double-acting Telescopic Dampers and Stabilizer type at front and Torsion Beam, Helical Coil Spring, Double-acting Telescopic Dampers and Stabilizer at rear. For the utmost safety of the passengers, it includes ABS with EBD, Dual-stage front Airbags, Early Crash Sensors, highly tensile Steel frame, Reinforced bodywork, Crumple zone, Anti-theft Engine Immobiliser with rolling code, Fire Prevention System to cut-off fuel flow automatically in case of an impact, three safety headrests, Automatic and Central Door Locking, Double Crank Prevention System, Programmable Speed Limit Indicator and Follow Me Home Headlights, Digital Door Open Indicator with exact indication of which door accidentally remained open and 3-Point ELR Seat Belts with Pretensioners and Load Limiters and Driver Seat Belt Warning Light with Buzzer in top models.
Overall, this is a great sedan with overwhelming power and performance, beautiful exterior and interior, advanced comfort, entertainment and safety features and economical price range with only one drawback of very few servicing outlets of Fiat in India. Otherwise, it is a complete value for money sedan.
