Toyota has discontinued the production of the Etios and Etios Liva, including the diesel variants, due to the decision not to upgrade these models to meet the BS6 emission standards. This move marks the end of a decade-long run for the Etios series in India. I believe this decision was inevitable given the stringent emission norms and the need for more modern and efficient vehicles.

The Toyota Etios Liva diesel, with its 1364 cc engine producing 67 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, was known for its fuel efficiency, offering up to 23.59 kmpl. It was also praised for its spacious cabin and comfortable ride. However, its design and features were often criticized for being outdated. I think the Etios Livas strengths in comfort and fuel efficiency made it a practical choice, despite its lackluster design.

Toyota introduced a new Inferno Orange shade for the Etios Liva dual-tone variant, available in both petrol and diesel trim options. This update was part of Toyotas efforts to keep the model fresh and appealing to buyers. I believe such cosmetic updates helped keep the Etios Liva relevant in a competitive market, even if it wasnt a game-changer.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the Platinum Etios Liva with enhanced features such as a new paint scheme, dual-tone upholstery, and additional infotainment features. The diesel variant was priced at Rs. 8.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). These updates were aimed at giving the model a more premium feel. I believe these premium touches helped attract buyers looking for a bit more luxury in their hatchback.

The Toyota Etios Liva, including the diesel variant, received a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, making it one of the safer options in its segment. This was a significant achievement, especially considering the general perception that lightweight cars were less safe. I think this safety rating was a major selling point for the Etios Liva.
