Premier has launched the facelifted version of the Rio in China, and there are speculations that this updated model might make its way to India. The new version features a redesigned front fascia, a more aggressive triple-slat grille, and revamped taillights. This facelift could give the Rio a fresh look in the Indian market. I think this update is necessary to keep the Rio competitive.

The Premier Rio CRDI4, powered by a 1.3-liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine, was introduced to enhance performance and fuel efficiency. This engine produces 72 PS of power and 183 Nm of torque, making the Rio more competitive in the compact SUV segment. The CRDI4 version is known for its peppy nature and minimal turbo lag. I think this engine upgrade was a significant improvement for the Rio.

Premier Rios diesel version, compliant with BS IV emission norms, was launched in India at a price of Rs. 6.7 lakh. This move was part of the companys effort to meet the new emission standards and offer a more environmentally friendly option. Deliveries for this model started from August 2, 2012. I believe this was a smart move to stay compliant and appealing to eco-conscious buyers.

Premier Rio, initially launched with a 1.5L turbo diesel engine, was set to receive a CRDI engine upgrade. This change was expected to improve the vehicles performance and fuel economy, with the new engine likely to be launched during the festive season in 2011. The CRDI engine was anticipated to bring a negligible price rise. I believe this upgrade would have made the Rio more appealing to buyers looking for better fuel efficiency.

Premier Automobiles re-entered the Indian passenger vehicle segment with the launch of the Premier Rio, a compact SUV sourced from China through a component supply agreement with Zoyte group. The Rio was assembled at Premiers Pune plant and sold through its dealers across India. Initially, it came in three variants with a price range of Rs. 5.25 lakhs to Rs. 5.95 lakhs. I think this was a bold move to revive Premiers presence in the Indian market.
