Unveiling the New Fourth-Gen Mini Cooper Petrol

Mini has unveiled the fourth-generation Cooper petrol 3-door hatchback marking a significant milestone as the final combustion-engined iteration of the iconic Mini Cooper. The new model draws visual inspiration from the original 1959 design and represents the culmination of Mini's longstanding legacy in the automotive industry.

Visual Design and Platform

The fourth-gen Cooper hatchback closely resembles the Mini Cooper EV but sits on a distinct platform unrelated to the electric version. The design pays homage to the 1959 original, maintaining Mini's iconic aesthetic appeal.

Powertrain Enhancements

The new model retains the turbo-petrol engines seen in the third-generation hatch but receives power upgrades. The entry-level Cooper C features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 20hp increase, totaling 156hp. The Cooper S, equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, sees a 25hp boost, reaching 204hp.

Performance Metrics

The power enhancements translate into improved performance. The Cooper C achieves a 0-100kph time of 7.7 seconds, a 0.4-second improvement. The Cooper S maintains a swift 6.6-second 0-100kph time, outpacing the electric Cooper SE variant.

Automatic Gearboxes Only

Both variants of the fourth-gen Cooper petrol will be exclusively offered with automatic gearboxes. This aligns with contemporary automotive trends and provides ease of use for drivers.

Interior Features

The interior boasts a minimalist dashboard design featuring a prominent OLED infotainment display. Notably it claims to be the first production car with a round OLED touchscreen providing critical information and controlling various functions.

India Launch Timeline

Mini currently sells the third-gen Cooper hatchback in India with both petrol and electric powertrain options. The expectation is that the fourth-gen range, including the petrol variant, will debut in India later this year. The Cooper EV variant is confirmed for an India launch in Q3 2024.

The introduction of the fourth-gen Mini Cooper petrol 3-door hatchback signifies Mini's commitment to its heritage while embracing technological advancements. The power upgrades, improved performance metrics, and modern interior features contribute to the appeal of this iconic model. As Mini continues its legacy, the new Cooper variant is expected to capture the attention of enthusiasts and drivers seeking a blend of classic design and contemporary performance.
