Toyota Unveils Trio of New SUVs in 18-Month Ago

Toyota is gearing up to launch three new SUVs in India within the next 18 months. The Fronx-based Taisor will launch sometime this year, while an all-new three-row SUV based on the Hyryder will be introduced sometime in 2025. Additionally, another SUV based on the Corolla Cross is also in the works.

Key Points

  1. Model 1: Next-Gen RAV4: The first jewel in Toyota's SUV crown is the next-generation RAV4.  With the RAV4 being a cornerstone of Toyota's SUV lineup, this update is expected to set new standards in the compact SUV segment.

  1. Model 2: All-New Highlander Hybrid: Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology takes center stage with the introduction of the all-new Highlander Hybrid. As environmental concerns drive the automotive industry towards sustainability, Toyota is doubling down on its hybrid expertise to provide eco-conscious consumers with a compelling SUV option.
  2. Model 3: Compact Crossover Surprise: Toyota is generating anticipation for a small crossover that seeks to surprise and enthrall the market by withholding information about the third SUV. Will it be a daring foray into the subcompact SUV class or a flexible crossover that can be used to combine off-road prowess with urban agility? Time will tell.
  3. Performance and Off-Road Capability: Toyota's reputation for building rugged and capable off-road vehicles precedes itself, and the new SUVs are expected to carry on this tradition. Whether it's the off-road prowess of the RAV4, the hybrid efficiency of the Highlander, or the mystery model's surprise capabilities, Toyota aims to cater to a diverse audience with varying lifestyle needs.
  4. Market Impact and Competition: With the release of these three new SUVs, Toyota is in a position to consolidate its leadership in the SUV industry. There is a Toyota SUV for every kind of driver thanks to the brand's extensive lineup, which includes midsize hybrids and tiny crossovers.

Three row Hyryder to sit below the Corolla Cross SUV

The three-row Hyryder will also have a common production setup just like the standard Hyryder SUV and its badge-engineered twin, the Grand Vitara. As reported by us last year, Maruti has begun work on the three-row Grand Vitara (codename: Y17) that will be built at Maruti's new Karkhoda plant; the factory will start rolling out cars from 2025. The three-row Hyryder, which will be based on the three-row Grand Vitara, will be built and supplied by Maruti to Toyota. While the wheelbase is expected to remain the same, the three-row Hyryder will get a slightly longer rear overhang in order to accommodate the third row.

The two-row versions of the SUV are built by Toyota and supplied to Maruti, however, it will be the opposite with the three-row version. This new SUV will sit alongside the Innova Hycross and will be aimed at customers looking at the Alcazar, XUV700 and the Safari

Toyota is readying another SUV for a 2025 launch, which will be built at its new facility. This new SUV will be based on the Corolla Cross SUV sold overseas, will sit on the popular TNGA-C platform shared with the Innova Hycross, and hence, be positioned above the three-row Hyryder.

Toyota India future line-up

The rebadged Fronx, Hyryder three-row, and the Corolla Cross-based SUV will add to Toyota’s already vast model portfolio for India, which includes the Glanza, Rumion, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and the Vellfire MPV. Apart from the aforementioned SUVs, Toyota will also bring its first born-EV to India – co-developed with Maruti – sometime in 2025.
