Indian automobile market witnessed an impressive sales number from motorcycle and scooter industry in May 2017. The top 10 products are almost the same as every month but this time, number speak a different tale. Honda Activa comes out as the most selling product of India, finding 2,82,478 owners in just one month. This number is even more than collective sales of few Indian motorcycle and scooter brands. Counting them separately, Hero Splendor sold 2,35,832 units in the same month. It was the highest selling geared machine of India in May 2017.  - background

The motorcycle list continues with Hero HF Deluxe and Passion at 1,40,769 and 89,399 units respectively. Honda CB Shine follows closely at 86,600 units for the fourth position. Hero Glamour sold 67,515 units and seems to follow CB Shine for higher sales in 125 cc segment.  - picture

Hero Splendor is the Best-Selling Bike in India

Bajaj Pulsar series collectively sold 50,009 units while the most expensive on this list, Classic 350, sold 39,721 units and came seventh in the top 10 motorcycle list. Bajaj CT 100 stood eighth with 38,947 units while TVS Apache series had 37,151 units on its side. Bajaj Platina stands at 10th position with 30,726 units sold in last month. Honda Activa 4G is the Best-Selling Scooter in India

After Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter is the second best selling scooter with 57,068 units sold in May 2017. Honda retains the third spot with Dio (41,303 units) while Hero Maestro and Suzuki Access bags next two positions with 35,795 and 31895 units respectively. The sales report saw a huge dip in sales after these five scooters. Hero Duet stood sixth with 19,194 units while Yamaha Fascino came next with 17,243 units. Hero Pleasure sold 15,573 units, closely followed by Yamaha Ray at 15,032 units. TVS Scooty Pep+ stood 10th with 13,706 units. Top 10 Best Selling Scooters in India (May 2017) 1. The price rise due to BS4 compliant engines was well absorbed in the second month. Kawasaki Ninja 650 sold 22 units with an overall YoY increase of 633 percent in its sales. The newly introduced Z650 was even good for 12 units in the same period. Yamaha FZ25 is the rising star with 2299 units in sale, leaving the closest competitor Dominar 400 (882 units) behind by a big margin. The trends in superbike sale was highly negative for Harley Davidson and Triumph. The only reason for this drop seems the wait for implementation of GST in India from July 1, 2017.
