Updated Tata Nexon SUV Scores 5 Star Rating in Global NCAP Crash Test

Tata Nexon SUV has secured the first-ever 5 star safety rating in Global NCAP crash test results. The updated version of the car stays true on two factors - manufactured in India and sold in India. The score was earlier restricted to 4 stars due to lack of only one adult protection feature. Tata has included seat belt reminder for both the driver and passenger on the new version. The new Nexon SUV scored 16.06 out of the total 17 points for adult protection, much higher in comparison to the 13.56 points for the older version. The cars produced from December 7, 2018 will feature the additional safety feature. The current version provided adequate safety for the head and neck area of the front passengers but addition of a safety reminder fulfilled all the conditions demanded by Global NCAP. The shell is rated stable when hitting a barrier 64 kph, even passing the side impact test with good points. The marginal moniker for the car has changed to good with the single change. The platform that Nexon uses is really impressive. Apart from the child seat anchorages, all variants of the Nexon are available with dual airbags and ABS as standard. The adult protection remains impressive on all options. The range of Nexon starts from INR 6.23 lakh for the base petrol version, going all the way up to INR 10.66 lakh for the diesel AMT version. Commenting on the Nexon's stellar showing, David Ward, Secretary General at Global NCAP, said, “This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India’s first five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The Nexon was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata has shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can 'Make in India'.”
